I’ve had multiple albums grow on me. If I can enjoy listening to it while doing spring/summer activities then it’ll be fine.

 

It took each of DTGL, LITSOS, and D a long time to grow on me, and even longer to really hit me emotionally. Granted, a large part of that was them getting heavier than I was used to each time, but the best records are often growers.

 

DTGL and LITSOS were both pretty immediate for me. Disambig was the only one that took a while to grow on me.

 

I liked TOCS on first listen and while I enjoyed a few songs from both DTGL and LITSOS, it took me a few listens to listen enjoy DTGL all the way through and a few years for LITSOS.

 

He also hasn't been into the other two songs much at all. I'd also be trying to pawn off my vinyl had I pre-ordered one. I don't want to listen to an album on vinyl if it means I have to sit through bad songs to get to the ones I like.

Sometimes that is the case though especially if the person goes into the album expecting something else.

 

Yeah but it's also not the case a lot of the time and it's a waste of time to spend time on albums you don't like trying to like them

 

Honestly I think this convo should be going on AFTER the full album comes out, at least give the band the chance instead of giving up before it even starts

 

I did hate the first two fall out boy singles and loved mania so who knows but it's pretty rare that I love an album where I hate the singles

 

This isn't towards anyone in particular, just throwing this out there, but when multiple people who have heard the full thing are saying that these 2 songs are among the worst on the album, I am not about to let these songs represent the album as a whole for me, that's all (especially when I really like one of them and the other one is still decent for what it is)

 

I mean like yeah

i don't particularly care what other people think, some people will say any new album is the best album ever because they got it early. What I have heard is not good.

 

I share some tastes with drew and Jason and others and I have some differences in taste with them too, their least favs and my least favs may not line up and I won't know until I've heard the album so all I have to go on that I can trust is how I feel about the songs and nothing else. I hope they do end up being the worst on the album but I won't know til I hear it. I think it's fair for my hype to be rather low since I don't like either new song at all

 

I’m still excited as hell for the record. “Rapture” has grown on me and now I love it and I’ve enjoyed the clips released so far as well.

Can’t wait for Friday!

 

Or... maybe we just have different opinions on music than you. Crazy, I know.

That's pretty much what I said. I don't care what others think because they aren't me.

 

As far as the comment about getting it early, bias and hype play heavily into people's reactions on or around albums releases. The amount of albums I've heard the first time and thought "that was amazing" and then dropped it soon after is embarrassingly large. It happens all the time here and on ap too in album and band threads. So yeah I do not care what impressions others have, especially when I have my own of the songs and clips that are out there.

Anyway I'll listen to it tomorrow and hopefully like it.

 

There's also a ton of other music out there to spend time with instead of trying to reach some arbitrary number of times you need to listen to an album before you can say you don't like it and can move on

 

Yeah. I get that some albums are growers, but I've personally never listened to an album and thought "this is bad" before it grew on me. There's a, frankly huge, difference between an album being a grower and one thinking it's bad.
