My hype level just went from like 10/10 to like 15/10. New song is absolutely on par with what I want musically from them.

Looks like that's part of it and the theme of the album:

"From a press release "Gillespie’s quote touches on the narratives behind the 11-song release: addressing the dire circumstances that led to the demise of the band, the ability to, now, be true to themselves and with their listeners as well as the individual band members disenchantment with religion."

I'm extremely tentative about this having finally come to a resolution to my faith after struggling to reconcile it with my sexuality for so many years. I'm now consider myself religious but non-dogmatic. I think there's a great way to approach religious criticism that doesn't throw out the baby with the bath water that I hope they engage with. I have no interest in an album that just... trashes religion indiscriminately. Their posture and new aesthetic has me worried.

A blurb I read somewhere explicitly mentioned themes of struggling with religion so they don’t seem to be beating around the bush too much. Unless the site I read was just assuming.

Edit: yep. That’s the one. Good timing.

The album artwork reminds me a bit of Pusha’s King Push:

Haven’t went back to see if anyone else posted this. But the cover zoomed out looks like a goat head..assuming that was intentional?

That deluxe for $55 is a stupidly high price.

Do the relatively simple track names/album name stand out to anybody? These titles are cool too but I kinda miss the long mysterious ones

Aaron, Chris, Grant, and Tim are still Christian. This whole thing confuses me. Did the band come to an agreement that they can write music that denounces the believes of over half the members so long the band itself can still exist?

Sometimes it can be a substitute for strong emotion. As long as they don’t go Jay and Silent Bob on us.

why does significant shift have to automatically mean denouncing? its completely possible to call yourself a christian and still recognize the significant shortcomings of the religion you used to think was infallible. to act like the only shift possible is from straight up die hard christianity to atheism is weird.
