Trust me, you're far from the only one feeling negative about this. And they're not wrong either.

So far the negative feedback seems to be a mix of miscasting and the movie appearing to lift scenes from the game wholesale while wrapping them around a generic adventure movie.

And they're probably right. I'm not expecting much from this beyond a way to kill a couple hours.

I did wonder for a moment if I was just misremembering the plane bit being from the games or if I was just confusing it with a similar sequence. Now that I know I was right, I think it was a mistake to do that. It's iconic, sure, but I would've preferred they just come up with their own spin on it.

    But anyway...

Holland is so wrong for this part, for pretty much all the reasons he’s a perfect Spider-Man.

and Wahlberg is just about the worst choice for Sully they could’ve come up with. Wild how they just fundamentally miscast the two most important roles.

I'll watch this on a plane and probably have a good time

2000s Era Nathan Fillon or Brenden Fraiser would've been perfect.

They should’ve just let Stephen Lang play Sully. One of my friends also suggested Bryan Cranston today, he would’ve been great too.

Yep, definitely more or less seems like a noninteractive version of Uncharted!

Tom Holland miscast in an adaptation which got stuck in development hell and which seems destined to bomb at the box office? Is this Chaos Walking again?

It doesn’t look from bad the trailer. Never played the games but I love stuff like Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider so it’s right down my alley it seems.

I think this is probably the best we’re gonna get out of the big Hollywood machine with Uncharted. Not too thrilled by what I saw, especially seeing how they straight up lifted the plane sequence in 3, but I dunno, it could be a fun popcorn movie. Plus, I can just go play the games again if I want the proper Uncharted experience, which are basically all movies that you get to control anyway.

About to see this. I think it looks like ass and just a lame excuse to show Tom Holland flying through the air. There are 3 sequences of him doing so in the trailers alone.

    RT is down to 40%.

if I didn’t have regal unlimited I would have chosen the cursed instead which has much better reviews. But since I’ve already seen enough movies to pay off my membership it’s all “free” at this point, so I’ll see everything. Decided to get this one out of the way.

more people in my theater than usual for a Thursday night screening though. With the weak reviews I don’t expect this to do huge numbers, but maybe it’ll make a decent little bit.

Arguably Playstation's biggest franchise and I didnt even realize the movie came out today. Zero hype.

Well, that was a movie. Mediocre is probably the best word for it. It wasn’t awful. Probably a solid Redbox rental to kill a couple hours.

All of the humor fell flat for me. Okay, one exception. When Mr. Whiskers pops out at the end behind Sully it got a genuine chuckle out of me. My favorite part of the movie as it was the only moment that brought me some joy.

So, yes, a cat popping up was the best moment for me. Yikes for the rest of the movie.

I wonder sometimes about the decisions that go into adapting licenses for other forms of media.

Like, let's say they just did a straight adaptation of the first game. I get it, it's not as entertaining to make as making an original story, and I'm sure a lot of fans would just rather play the game than see it in live-action.

Okay, so you want to do something original. So how and why did Sony go from that to the conclusion that what people really wanted was an origin story with a younger Nate? I mean, why not just do an original story with the characters as they are?

I haven't seen the movie, so this isn't meant as a critique by any means. It's just me emptying thoughts into the ether.

While I'm thinking, I also note that Avi Arad produced this. I also see that he's producing the Borderlands movie, which I completely forgot about, and also forgot that Jack Black was cast as Claptrap.

This has nothing to do with Uncharted and everything to do with bad video game adaptations. I have to believe a good adaptation is possible if we find someone who cares enough to make it work.

Hasn't this also been in development hell for a bit? I'm sure a bunch of things changed and stuck and ended up with a weird mismash of ideas.

Oh, since we see the plane sequence twice, that makes four sequences where they have Tom flying around in the air so everyone can remember Spider-Man. This movie was so deep.

Yeah, this was definitely a movie I would have preferred to just catch on TNT when flipping through channels on a random Sunday. Wasn't completely awful, but it's exactly the generic adventure movie you're expecting.
