Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Sadly it's a fake headline. Still, I can imagine the optics on it are probably making the paper consider running something similar...

Ah bugger I don't normally get caught out by those, I blame being tired.

It's so upsetting waking up to see another attack in London, I hope all the injured pull through.

Ugh, this has been a rough month for news. So horrible.

And of course, funny how when muslims are victims and not perpetrators it's a 'potential' terrorist act.

Newspaper comment sections and Twitter is really bumming me out over this. I know there are shitty people in the world but this is really showing just how many shitty people there are.

Worth noting the attack happened in Corbyn's constituency. I wonder if all this 'terrorist sympathiser' rhetoric has factored at all?

It really is terrible that that is a selection of front page national newspapers. Those same papers have criticised mosques for inciting hatred and violence yet if those front pages aren't an incitement to hatred and violence I'm not sure what is...

    It's just awful. Very sad.

There have been too many sad things in this country in the last month.

Sure, but where do you cross the line? Should people not be informed about what happens? Communities often won't report such incidents due to fears of being labelled 'racist', ie the infamous Rotherham Gang Rape. Same thing when that Channel 4 documentary 'Undercover Mosque' was released and the police dismissed it as distorted editing (despite Ofcom ruling it as fair and accurately represented). It's just a shame it has to come from far-right papers who could be spouting nothing but propaganda. There has to be such a divid of left/right.

Both sides need to find a common ground in reporting such events. Otherwise there's no trust, just greater divide.

Yes, I think my point is that the selection of headlines displayed there are doing exactly what they're often calling out - just from a different perspective. I don't know where the line is but I agree that there should always be a press that is free to report.

I guess one of the problems with newspapers since the growth of the internet is that you need an eye-catching, usually polarising headline to get people to actually buy a paper. And then on the internet you need a similarly 'click bait' title to get people to visit the site. Which is why you end up with these kind of titles that are feed into the current atmosphere.

The problem is, when things happen in the Muslim community, it is framed as a pathology of a deficient community, whereas when bad things happen and white people are the cause, they're treated as individual bad apples; no thought is given to the overarching discourse and how it precipitates the terrible actions perpetrated by whites.

I think it's also worth remembering that people like EDL supporters are just waiting for headlines like that as an excuse to act on their bigoted beliefs. Those headlines/articles are just the fire that lights the fuse, so to speak. Obviously that causes problems in and of itself, but the newspapers aren't the reason people carry out these attacks IMO.

Genuine question here that I'm not really sure anyone will be able to answer but I'll ask anyway: why is the standard for broadcast media with regards to impartiality so much higher than that in print media? Why are services like Ofcom able to moderate extremist views but newspapers have no such scrutiny and any retractions that are made generally after the fact? Is it due to the licence fees we have to pay to watch TV or is it something else?
