I was a little worried I wasn't going to love this album, cus I didn't really love Blurryface and the singles didn't overly excite me, but all that went out the window when I heard Morph. It could end up being my favorite top song. Chlorine, Smithereens, Neon Gravestones are all excellent as well. Cut My Lip is the only one I didn't care for from my first listen if I'm remembering correctly. I still need to spend some more time with the last 4 songs too, but overall this really surpassed my expectations.

this album would be a lot better without neon gravestone, I'm not against it's message but it's way too preachy about it. Especially the ending jfc

One of my favorite little touches on the album is in Neon Gravestones where the chorus melody is subtly played in the background of the second verse. Makes the verse extra haunting and sad. So much I'm discovering on this thing.

This album isn't nearly as immediately catchy to me as their other stuff but musically it's definitely their best work, it's a fantastic headphones album with lots of little details. Not sure if it's my favorite yet though, it seems like a grower for sure

Twenty One Pilots is a top 10 band for me, but never have I ever listened to any of their material and it catch on immediately. I've listened to Trench three times through now and it definitely hasn't clicked all the way yet, which is fine, because I'm certain it eventually will.

Surprised at the consistent mellowness throughout and to me, a very 80s-ish vibe to it (imo). I don't really see or hear any smash hits on this album, which is fine too. I agree with what someone in here who said earlier that it's almost like a 2018 version of their self-titled album - which is also very mellow and less pop-hit driven. When I first heard the album, that was one of my first thoughts.

Early favorites are: My Blood (I can see this being one of my favorite TOP songs ever), Chlorine, Smithereens, Bandito, Leave the City

    Hopefully getting my vinyl today.

  6. Anyone have other readings on Smithereens' lyrics outside of just like some weird toxic possessive shit?

I guess it's like the tiniest bit subversive that he's talking about getting his own ass beat as opposed to beating someone else's ass, but yeah that song bugs me

I think it's way more than a 'tiny bit subversive' - it's a tongue in cheek song telling his wife how much he loves her. 'I can't fight for your honor, but I'd get beat up for it' is a silly way for a guy who isn't big/tough/strong to flip the narrative of the defender/tough guy around. The typical tough guy bro way of communicating is off the table for a 153 pound guy like Tyler, and so he's jokingly saying, 'well, I'd do this.'

I'm 10000% sure that this isn't weird or toxic or possessive, but is something funny that makes his wife smile - he literally sings 'I had to put this on the record' in the bridge, which to me seems a whole lot like a joke with her that he said he'd put in a song or something. He had similarly cheesy lyrics for her on 'Tear In My Heart,' which I'm equally sure she was good with.

Jumpsuit and My Blood are my easy favorites. Love Chlorine, Leave This City and Pet Cheetah (silly but I love the music)

Smithereens, Cut My Lip and Morph are the weak ones for me. Idk what it is about Morph, really liked it the first time but the more I listen, the more it feels like a song that could have come off the last Gym Class Heroes record to me

Really good record, lasting value still to be determined

This is decent. Might like it more than Blurryface when all is said and done. A lot of the songs on here feel like blandly-written alt pop that have just enough weird touches to make them interesting. Chlorine is probably my favorite.

Got the record and the box was all bent and the sleeve is in rough shape too. Real bummer.

Ok good I'm not the only one whose pre-order hasn't shipped. I emailed them today asking about the delay...
Kind of defeats the purpose of a pre-order but oh well.

Honestly I was not expecting this to be an album I wanted to listen to on repeat. I kind of thought I'd listen and make myself like it just enough to learn the songs for when I see them kind of thing. I guess Jumpsuit and Niko didn't do a ton for me (at first), and I didn't listen to the other ones a ton. But now hearing the whole thing, first of all I looove Jumpsuit. But the whole album has me hooked. I rarely start albums over right when I finish them these days, but that's what I've been doing.

I kind of always underrate my love for them. There have been times where I'm going to see them and by the time the show comes I'm not excited for some reason, and then after the show I'm like wow that was amazing. And I think what it comes down to is I actually just didn't like Blurryface that much. I thought I did at the time, but only a few songs really jump out to me, and I think that was making me not that excited for their shows, but then it translated better live.

Tl;dr: the album rules and is one of my favorite releases this year.

My iPhone is set to "Repeat" so normally when an album starts over, I rush to grab my phone and pause it so I don't listen to it over again. But with Trench, "Jumpsuit" starts and it's SO hard to turn it off. Then I just end up listening again.

One thing I love is, I was disappointed that the bridge of "Jumpsuit" didn't go on longer at first. When it came out, I kind of assumed the softer piano part would be an anomaly and the rest would be more upbeat. Now, knowing there are so many gorgeous piano parts on the record, it actually works in the song's favor that it's kept brief.

Dont know if its been touched on yet but Neon Gravestones gives me some major Hobo Johnson vibes.

We’ve talked about how the record overall has a self-titled vibe, but ‘Bandito’ sounds like it was lifted off of Regional At Best to me. And I mean that in the best possible way.

So my ears are playing tricks on me cause I genuinely can’t tell if Paul is singing with Tyler at the end of chlorine. Through my car I think it’s just tyler but on headphones i swear I can hear both..

Listened to this twice in the past day. What a strange and ballsy record to release after releasing a breakout record.

Early favorites are Bandito, Chlorine (mostly for the outro), The Hype, Jumpsuit.
