Well…Shyamalan’s directing and Hartnett’s acting are on display. M. Night’s writing is mostly still like NPCs talking.

I like some parts of this, but a lot of this is a mess.

I think that movie is great. My wife and I enjoyed it so much. We laughed quite a bit.

I'm pretty excited for this movie. Even if it turns out to be like a 6/10 movie....I know I'm going to really enjoy it. Always been a big Josh Hartnett fan too. I kiiiiiinda hope there's not a major twist. Instead, I hope it's just a continuous tension build up throughout.

Shout out to Night too. Night is pretty much the Punk Rocker of film making. Dude is DIY with originality while funding it himself. So rad.

Will be curious to hear others' thoughts. Harnett was good but I thought this was garbage.

He did a good job but the role felt too cliche imo, especially with the button in the credits.

    Absolutely. Pure corny Shyamalan humor.

All of the side characters gave overly-long exposition dumps like they were NPCs guiding the main character. You almost expected a dialogue tree to pop up to choose what Hartnett would do next.

    Boring and bad.

Josh was the only somewhat decent thing here

Oh my god this was so much fun. Second favorite movie of the summer (behind my beloved Furiosa)

  16. This won’t delay it by much, I’m afraid. I’ll eat this in five bites!

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

totally forgot this was out today. these incredibly mixed reactions are exactly what I want from Shyamalan

  18. Hartnett was having fun in this and I love that for him. Alison Pill was as good as she always is. This was otherwise very, very dumb and clunky

I’m convinced M. Night has never been to a concert before. It would have been absolutely hilarious if some unsuspecting audience member was going back to their seat and fell down the random open, unsecured trap door in the middle of the main floor seat aisle.

I don't feel like reviews and reactions are doing justice to how truly bizarre and unhinged this movie was. I opened social media afterward expecting a firestorm and every response to this movie treats it like it's almost normal (for better or for worse).

It is not. This is one of the least normal movies I've seen in a long, long time. It really felt like a greatest hits of M Night's weirdest traits right down to casting his daughter as the pop star who then saves the day for a second???

The acting by Josh Harnett is great and the daughter was good too. Saleka Shyamalan actually has chops. The thing is the dialogue is, like, The Happening level bad so hearing Josh Harnett say such ridiculous things while acting so well is almost stranger than if he was a horrible actor. And then suddenly Allison Pill shows up at the end and is put front and center and is going for a freaking Oscar, while also saying bizarre things. Also, let's have Josh take off his shirt and look hot while he's threatening his wife. That "mom" scene between Harnett and Shyamalan in the car is also the most insane thing I've seen in a movie in a long, long time and I couldn't believe what I was watching. How did we even get to the pop star being in a car with the killer and reminding him of his mommy issues??

I have so much to say about this movie. I can't say even say I hated it. It almost defies explanation for me. It completely broke my brain in a way only M. Night Shyamalan can do. In that regard, it might be his masterpiece. I admire it. I'm shocked it has a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes right now. That makes it seem more boring than the 10% that I expected to see.

Hartnett having fun but my gosh this was bad.
Props to the trailer team for totally concealing the second half of the movie though

When she’s sitting there in the passenger seat and says something to the effect of “Cooper you must forgo this nonsense” (god I wish I remember what it actually was), I swear a person like two or three rows up threw their hands up like the Seinfeld gif

I think it was something like "You must stop this foolishness at once". Oh man. Everyone laughed.

If a filmmaker and movie can cause a reaction like this, I’m all in! I can’t wait to see this! It's also nice to hear Josh Hartnett say the movie is probably going to be wilder than we think.

Fun fact: Trap was inspired by this actual event in 1985:

Operation Flagship: wanted fugitives were sent invitations with free tickets to a game at RFK Stadium between the Cincinatti Bengals and the Washington Redskins.

    101 people were arrested.
