  1. What’s up with Sorority Noise’s tour manager tweeting blunt things about them?

Unfortunately a small minority of the pop punk fanbase truly knows or cares how it was handled (you very clearly being one that does, of course I do as well even as a fan of the band)

So because of that, making it public knowledge (while it kinda already is if people look it up) would really dampen their current popularity and give negative value to the genre which has been in bad shape for a couple years now.

The way With Confidence handled their situation (which was much worse imo) was exactly how it should have been done. Acknowledge it, apologize, and move on. Unfortunately for them, they now have to rebuild their fanbase, but maybe they shouldn't be asking for foot jobs in the first place if they want to succeed in the music scene.

They didn't remove Artery's name. Their booking agency and merch store remains intact on the flyer, though.

My understanding of the Neck Deep situation:

One (1) girl made a statement, on Tumblr accusing members of the band of being sexually creepy torwards her. She was in some sort of a relationship with their Bassist. EDIT: there are no existing dick pics from him. Just normal snaps.

Girl wasn't underage when most the events stated happened, (16, which is AOC in the UK, however she was 15 when Fil and her started snapchatting but she was doing so anonymously so the morality is up for debate) and only two band members were directly accused, as well two others of the team on the tour (who no longer seem to be active with the band)

One of the band left, Sam who went to "focus on his family life" (which is generally an implicit admission of guilt). He was accused of sending unsolicited dick pics to both the girl implied here, and another one on Twitter although she retracted her allegation.

Dani was only accused of jokingly asking her to "show off" her vag while Fil was on a video call with her. (Which yes, was some form of harassment, but he was 17 or 18 at the time, and probably drunk given the situation. Not justifying, but he was clearly more immature then than now.)

In the aftermath the girl deleted her account. Some people say she admitted to faking the story beforehand but this logic seems shaky.

Now while some would say Fil being involved with her was innapropriate giving the 4.5 year age gap, (as I would) bear in mind the majority of fans of the pop-punk genre are generally pretty young. The chance any fan he was in contact with was younger than him was pretty high. He should've been smarter, but since she never said in her statement he knew her age I'm gonna generously assume it was a mistake.

Nearly 5 years have passed now, they've been in the public light now and I believe they understand how deal with these situations professionally unlike in 2013 when they were largely unknown and these interactions seemed primarily social. When you're an underground band that's barely been signed, you don't realize you have power over "fans", or even have fans.

I do wish there was more clarity in their statements, but keep in mind there is a lot of label-related politics regarding these situations.

Do with this as you will, I'm not gonna say whether I believe they're innocent or guilty, but I do believe people don't have the full understanding of the situation.

age gap doesn't matter if you're taking advantage of your fans

if they are better people now then they should have actually fessed up to what happened and made a real apology as opposed to just sweeping it under the rug

  9. Harassment is Harassment whether you've had 30 beers or 0 .

Look at the absolute shit storm raining down in the hardcore community right now.

And the only reason they dropped the member a few years back is because Hopeless told them it was either that or be cut from the label

hopeless has twice allowed a band to continue on after they designated a fall guy, that label is just as gross as pure noise if not more so at this point

  11. Context is important. I think another big part of this is the fact that in 2012-2013 they were closer in age to me (17) than they are to most of the people who are quick to not support them. Even as recently as that the scene wasn't as woke, and although I don't support their alleged actions, I genuinely think the lack of condemnation for what they did just makes them ignorant.

I also think that if people like Dan from Real Friends, who's one of the most socially aware people in the scene, stays friends and tours with this band it says a lot about character and change.

That being said, I respect the opinion of those who choose not to support them, but I do not think myself or anyone else who does is a bad person.

  12. I don't think anyone who supports a band that has had allegations against them is a bad person.

Some people are capable of still enjoying them etc and that's cool

I just think if you support an abuser, you allow them to still have the platform they use to abuse

It's just so much easier to support one of the literally hundreds of bands out there with members who haven't taken advantage or sexually harassed their fans instead of spending tons of time trying to justify supporting the ones that have.

  16. I guess it just depends how much personal meaning the music has.

I empathize, for sure, with the fans of these bands. It's not something that most, or even I, really came to grips with immediately. From a musical perspective, I liked Neck Deep. I liked Moose Blood quite a bit. I really liked Pinegrove. Brand New was one of my favorite bands.

The way I see it though, it would just kill me inside to see any support I'd give those bands put them further into power, just for them to use their platform to harm/hurt their fans. It just makes it easier to cut ties and put that same passion into bands that don't do that.

  18. I really appreciate this response. For me, I think it depends on circumstances. Obviously the Jesse Lacey stuff was a lot older, but was way more serious and was physical. The Moose Blood stuff was so recent. I don’t even know enough about Pinegrove to comment confidently. But as far as Neck Deep goes, I personally choose not to stop supporting but I respect those who do.

To contribute nothing of value to this current thread:

Because pop punk needs to be eradicated from this planet like the bubonic plague that it is?

Well, at least the support on this tour will probably be good.

  24. Imagine thinking you’re so morally superior that the death of a genre is the only solution to a scene full of abusive people, many of whom don’t even play pop-punk.

  25. Sorry to double-post but I want to elaborate. Promoting the downfall of a genre will never be a solution to taking down an abuse of power issue. The way we can be better is by promoting bands in any given genre that aren’t abusive of their platform.
