Yeah that just seems like poor planning on their part. You think they would’ve had a back-up headliner in case SZA or Lizzo dropped out?

I’m also hearing it was because of low-ticket sales. Lots of people weren’t stoked on the lineup this year

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised by the low ticket sales. Lizzo and SZA are powerhouses, but they both did just conclude huge arena tours across the country, which both hit the Philly area already. Plus this fest being on a holiday weekend probably doesn't help.

I said to my wife, ticket sales probably weren’t hot to begin with and then she was gonna back out. So they just called it quits instead of trying to find an equal replacement on short notice.

yeah it’s just a thing I’ve seen. Rap shows getting cancelled or crazy underselling or ones that are very hyped not sell out. Nashville just doesn’t go to rap gigs unless it’s like Kendrick (who ironically opened the yeezus tour)

Made In America was a weird fest the first two years. Was wild watching a bunch of Kanye stans sit through The National in 2014 and various fights breaking out when Matt went into the crowd and people got shuffled around.

Ha I was there that year too, and it was a weird scene. I watched City and Colour play on the main stage to a crowd of maybe 50 people. Glassjaw and Menzingers were on the lineup too but got cursed with timeslots against big names, so I've heard their crowds were tiny. Spotted dozens of high school kids puking and passing out. The thunderstorms the last day were awesome though, the brief evacuation scared a bunch of people into going home early so we got prime spots for the rest of the night.

Ha yeah some odd choices. X (the band) played it the first year right before PEarl Jam went on. Must have been NO ONE there.

I like rap / hip hop to a certain extent, so not being a straight up hater, but it's also not a great live genre and is reflective of that with all the lackluster sales (across the board, obviously there's individual market highs and lows).. I have seen a fair few hip hop sets, and it always massively underwhelms as far as being enhanced live. Now, there may be a show that's got a fire crowd and becomes a party and a memorable experience, but I've never been blown away by the performance.

I don't really listen to it but I think, in the past, it was dogged too much by just the rapper & DJ set (lot of "Let me see your hands!" calls and just general mugging without a lot of substance). However, in recent years, I do think the likes of Travis Scott, Kanye West, Kendrick LAmar, etc. have made strides to match the big rooms with the element of production that the genre commands. In terms of sales, could also still be that it's not necessarily a genre that has been known to a be a "road genre" but that, again, I think is changing particularly with the amount of festivals popping up which highly emphasize it.
