hardcore bros will defend their right to violence until the day they die unfortunately

I don't disagree with you in sentiment in terms of consent, but how do you legitimately propose to enforce such a thing at an event like LDB or FYA where the front of the stage with stage divers and the pit when it comes to hardcore dancing and moshing are essentially going to be a war zone when it comes to crowd movement? This type of stuff isn't new when it comes to hardcore either so unless you've got a Fugazi approach to it in mind, I don't think you're going to get your wishes unfortunately.

Random aside unrelated to the post I quoted above from some further investigation on r/hardcore - it looks like the bulk of the injuries came stage divers diving into nothing from a stage that was about a foot higher than it should've been. Plus LDB is already a bit worse with this stuff than your average fest and we've had a new influx of people into the scene since the pandemic so it's kind of a recipe for disaster.

I’m not condoning violence or bullies. I don’t like that stuff either. I’m just saying that’s the reality of that scene and the people in it aren’t really concerned with changing it.

Personally I’d love it more if every hardcore show was just singalongs and stage dives and no one got hit and no one got dropped- but trying to stop people from crowdkilling to Pain Of Truth would be like trying to stop everyone at a Wiz Khalifa concert from smoking weed bc you didn’t want a contact high. It’s just not even slightly realistic.

also it was way more than 5% moshing. I feel like most people in attendance got into the pit at some point in the weekend.

I wasn’t referring to whatever specific show - just more of your general heavy leaning show. But living in a post astroworld world, how many more people have to die at concerts before we address that certain concert cultures are not healthy or safe. How long are we using the “she knew what she was doing because of what she was wearing” excuse for simply wanting to see a band perform live but you end up in the hospital despite not wanting to be hit in the knee or head? It happening won’t ever stop, and I don’t care if it doesn’t affect those who don’t want to participate, but people who don’t want to should be protected and made the priority

oh for fucks sake not we are equating an understaffed oversold disaster of Astro world to a hardcore show. It’s like anything else there are some bad people that go to the shows like any other, 99% of people at metal/hardcore shows want nothing but the safety and care of others and the community. Beat down specific genre of hardcore sucks but if you are going to see those bands you know what to expect. If there is no guardrail you can expect stagediving…again sucks…but you know what is going to happen. I’ve seen more aggressive bros at a coheed show or a bayside show then I have ever seen at a knocked loose or terror show.

Thank you. What people need to know about the hardcore scene is that it’s made up of like the 20-30 most fucked up but generally decent weirdos in any given city and they all know each other and they all hit each other at their local shows and it’s fine cause they’re friends. Then you get the big fests like LDB and it’s basically the same thing but on a bigger scale cause it’s all the weirdos within 500 miles coming together. No one is there by accident. I’m ready to be done with this whole thing now.

on a lighter note— tell me more about that bc I’m in the Midwest and have been dying to see Camp Trash

It's getting announced tomorrow, I believe. Mid to late May, two dates have been blacked out but I'm assuming one will be Chicago since RP and PS are from here. Crossing my fingers for SubT, but itll probably be Beat Kitchen, which isn't too bad.

Edit: It's actually more of a NE/midwest jaunt. Detroit, Philly, Brooklyn, Boston, DC, Pitt, Toronto, Cleveland.

you're not going to change hardcore culture. many more than you have tried since the 80's. either stay home or get used to it.

Interesting. Hope you’re right bc Chicago would be the only city i could catch it on, and I’d probably need it to be on a Saturday at that.

but holy hell what a lineup. I feel like that could sell out Chop Shop or Bottom Lounge so I’d be pleasantly surprised if it was at Beat Kitchen.

Yea, I said it in the spirit box thread but again - The said reality is that FIR has 7 million monthly listeners, a huge presence on Sirius and on rock radio stations around the country, and this tour WILL sell out most dates. Another band was always going to take on the risk vs reward and be willing to ignore the noise on twitter for playing in front of new fans.

Haven't been inside the venue area for CS but I think Bottom Lounge is ambitious, tbh. Might be Sleeping Village? I think Evan has IIOI connections there - but I'm not even sure they're playing Chicago. This all from Storm Chasers' Patreon. But yeah, that line up is 3/3 for me.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I think keeping violence in hardcore is essential especially for people like myself who have struggled with anger issues all their life. It gives me and others an outlet that I know is consensual (Don't be in the pit, Don't crowd kill) and I can get all my pent up aggression and if I get smacked around that's good, and if other people get smacked around. Good for them. Obviously don't target anyone and pick people up and if you see blood help them out. Also I have hypersensory issues and having an aggressive outlet helps calm me down for when weighted blankets do not.

Probably in the minority here but just thought I would say my piece.

My perspective for what it takes to play the Bottom Lounge completely shifted after I saw Driveways and Rematch fill it. This lineup should have a bigger audience than Driveways and Rematch.

Emphasis on "should." If it was an IIOI headliner, no doubt, slam-dunk, definitely a BL show. But with it being an anniversary show, RP coming back and a buzzy opener, I suppose I could see it being a BL show.
