Any time I hear about Wheatus or the band Wheat, I just think of the old punk band whole wheat bread

Broke my nose when Dan stage dove during the Wheatus set. So much fun. The lineup for that one was incredible top to bottom.

I saw them open a couple ska tours back in the day. Fun live band, super nice guys

Kendrick going from Detroit to Columbus, skipping Cleveland, has ruined my day. There's nothing scheduled at Rocket Mortgage that day. How does that tour slip through? The Detroit show is the same night as Red Hot Chili Peppers/ The Strokes across the street. Already have tickets to that...

Easy, go see The Strokes and skip pedophile Anthony Keides and walk over to see Kendrick.

It wouldn't shock me if they have that date on reserve in case the first Detroit show sells out.

I get why people are mad at the billing. But like, come on. Yellowcard is very much the bigger name.

(and don’t get me wrong, I LOVE SDRE, but I thought Yellowcard being listed first was such the obvious thing to do…)

Yellowcard is well beyond their peak and the last two albums didn’t do well. I wouldn’t say they are much bigger by any stretch. YC was obviously bigger at their peak, but YC actually had a pretty short peak and the band hasn’t been at that level in a very long time. I love YC, but they aren’t some huge band. SDRE also hasn’t been super active the last 20 years which has added to their draw as well along with being one of the more influential bands in emo. They definitely fill the same kind of spot Jawbreaker did.

Both bands can play similar venues and are revered in their scenes, but given that this is so far the only show YC has announced it makes sense that they are billed higher. Either way they are both great gets for the festival and will draw big crowds.

  12. If festival lineups were best to worst, they’d look a LOT different. It’s most popular to least. Makes total sense to me why SDRE is lower than Yellowcard, even though I like Sunny Day more.

Yeah I think Yellowcard absolutely makes sense where they are, especially considering it's their first show back and only of 2022

In terms of Spotify monthly listeners numbers, it’s not even close:

    SDRE: 261k
    YC: 3m

SDRE was not even headlining during their first reunion tour (In Groezrock festival they were billed below Face to Face and Hatebreed), and now that Nate Mendel is not even part of this new reunion theres no way they would be billed above Yellowcard.

Bauhaus are doing 3,000-4,000 cap venues on tour, so they're at the right spot on the bill.

I think too, that there’s this logic of “SDRE are big in terms of influence, which is why they should be billed higher.” And I do get that, and I think that’s a valid reason for a particular band to be a little higher up on a lineup. But I don’t think SDRE had as big of an influence/impact as some of the other bands of the era. Like, they had a big influence on post hardcore/emo music of later eras. That goes without saying. But they didn’t have as big of an impact as, say, Fugazi or Jawbreaker. But that’s just my opinion

They'd probably book Fugazi as a headliner if things worked out.

  22. You’re probably right. I scrutinized the undercard for the fest a little closer and I guess I get it a bit more. Honestly both SDRE and YC are kind weird fits between Bauhaus and Misfits anyway so whatever. People are gonna go to see the band they wanna see reuniting regardless of where they’re billed I suppose

  23. Bet if you take out the song Ocean Avenue they’re literally tied haha but that doesn’t matter

    just for fun:

streams of YC top 5 minus ocean avenue: 224m streams (ocean ave does have more streams than the rest of their top 5 combined)

    SDRE’s top 5: 26m streams

  25. Fair enough but I do wish there was a way to break it down more by time period haha. Curious how much YC got listened to during the hiatus. SDRE fans also probably less likely to use Spotify, just slightly
