What's the basis for all these "changing circumstances beyond our control" cancellations? Is it, essentially, "Look, it's just too difficult to handle all these protocols and deal with constant testing/rescheduling so we're gonna wait until things hopefully get better"?

  3. cricketandclover

    Things have changed.

Could be venue vaccine/testing requirements for performers the band cannot or refuse to meet.

In that same vein, it could also be the personal comfort of the artists to actually go on tour at the moment. If I were a touring musician, I'd have a lot of trepidation about touring right now given the Delta surge. I'm not really gonna fault anyone who cancels at the moment because this is dragging out longer than everyone anticipated.

I caught a national show last night. I live in an area with a super high vaccination rate and low testing positivity, but the national acts all wore masks around the venue and were a lot less involved/engaged with the people there while not on stage then some of those same acts have been at other shows I’ve caught them at. It must be incredibly stressful to be in a new town every night and not know who you might be running into.

I was thinking the same thing. It must be even more stressful to tour during all this knowing that one case of covid can stop your whole show. I understand if some bands just don't want to deal with that at the moment

  7. i got an email a couple days before the Angels and Airwaves show lastnight that the venue was going to be requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours. so i brought my vax card and not a single person asked to see any proof of anything. cool cool...

I made this comment in another thread but for touring acts that typiclaly play 1-3k capacity places, it must be extra brutal this year. Margins is probably really thin and the usual tedium of touring is made 5x worse by the fact that you are likely limited in terms of activities you can do outside of playing/setting up the show.

I'm going to Modest Mouse tonight and it's the first show I'm going to that's claiming you have to show proof of vax or a negative test result. I'm wondering how that's gonna work out. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm fully expecting them to not actually be checking anything.

Every show I've been to starting in Aug has checked.

  12. I think it's definitely location based - for example, I live in Manhattan. I feel way more comfortable at a packed indoor show than I would in Arkansas because I know how high the vaccination rates are here. Honestly, if I lived in the south I would consider a trip up north if I really wanted to see a show.

Let's gooo this was so fun back in 2016. Movements opened back when they were tiny which is crazy to think about now. Venue in Toronto had to be less than 100 cap

  14. I think so too. I’m in Utah and they are a lot more lenient with covid related stuff.

I’d like to think that maybe that’s why bands keep cancelling tours, because venues are/aren't actually obligated to check for proof, but maybe have to SAY they do? Who knows...

I've only been to two shows thus far, but they were at different venues, and both venues not only checked them, but checked them thoroughly - to the point where the one show took a good 20 minutes of waiting to get in due to how long it was taking to check - and I showed up after the first band.

I had the same expectations that they were just going to go through the motions but was pleased to see they were taking it serious. Hopefully it continues.

Glad to hear that, but I'm in Dallas and I've been to 25 shows since the end of May and haven't been checked once. Also zero mask requirements.

As of 10/1, the LiveNation venues here (supposedly) started checking, so we'll see...

Really hope that happens tonight. I'll go early just in case.

I live in NYC so given how regulated the city is and how much is at stake with non-compliance, I'm not surprised by the diligence.

I've been to a lot since August in Chicago. Venues like Metro and Thalia Hall checked vax cards and IDs, and inside most people keep their mask on except when drinking. I went to see Anberlin at House of Blues and while they checked vax cards and negative test, inside no one was wearing their maks.

Outdoors festivals like Pitchfork, Riot and Lolla checked them, but for example Riot I went with a press pass and only checked my card the first day, after that they never asked for it again. The Hella Mega Tour has been the only one where no one checked anything and almost no one was wearing their masks

I went to a show at HOB Dallas last week and they were checking vax card/negative tests. If you didn’t have either, they had rapid tests at the door to take. No idea if people had to pay for those or not.

When I went to Riot, they checked the card with my ID the first day, 2nd and 3rd day they barely glanced over it without looking at my ID. It was printed page with a picture I took of the card with my phone and much of it was smudged.

I have been to 7-8 shows in the Chicago area that past few months and each venue was different. Some places actually checked the ID and some of them seemed like they were rushing to get people in so they didn't really check much.

I went to Furnace fest and the pre-shows stated that a vax card or negative test are required and that masks must be worn inside. First preshow I went to didn't check my ID, just quickly looked at the smudged picture on the paper. Second place I went to the security guy outside flat out said "I don't care about vaccination cards, I just want to make sure no one has a weapon on them". In both venues people took off their masks as soon as they walked in. At the fest itself they did check the ID. That was all in Alabama so take that into consideration.

I found that in Chicago the places that are in the more crowded areas tend to be a bit more strict (Downtown, Wicker Park and the upper side) but venues outside the city don't give a shit. I even saw one person ask in a post by a venue in the suburbs if a mask is mandatory and they replied with "nah".

I live in Virginia and the NorVA checked at the Dance Gavin Dance show. I’m seeing All Time Low on the 15th at the National and they’re saying it’s vaccinated only so I think they’ll be checking as well.

Not sure why you think a show in a couple weeks would preclude them from playing a show there NEXT SUMMER...

All Time Low is playing a free show in Tampa for the Lighting opening hockey game on the 12th outside the arena.
