Tom very recently met Mark in PERSON. You also don't know what that was about, whether it was "business" or not. Travis has said there's "no bad blood" and that's purely enough to counter-attack your argument. Insult to Skiba? The guy is "honoured" to even be a part of Blink. He's never even stated this is full-time. There's been plenty of bands who've temporarily got a new member to fill in for them, even on records. Mark and Travis wanted to do music, they waited on Tom for years, then copped out as he was "too busy" to oblige.

'Tom.Is.Out' clearly not officially. He's just not a part of the band during this tenure. Where's your proof this new lineup is more than a current album and subsequent tour? There is none. You're the one assuming. You can say Alkaline Trio will be fine but that's still another assumption.

"I don't care what Tom said". You clearly don't. When Tom is still a significant part of Blink, especially if he's still saying he's in the band. Mark and Travis have said NOTHING about the future (minus 'no future') except they have enough leftover songs for another album. You assuming Tom is officially gone forever from Blink and Skiba is his long-term replacement is also an "wish fulfillment based in nothing".

He even stated that WDNTW quote was a joke. Nevermind the fact that he said Blink's self-titled album would "bring world peace" upon release, but clearly his JOKES doesn't suit your "Tom is bat shit crazy and can't be trusted" narrative. Lol, what a comical way to consider someone dishonest.

    I'll eat my words as Skiba is now considered an "official" member judging from this "exclusive" video released yesterday;

Interviewer: "Are you an official member of blink-182",
Matt: "Err, I'd like to think so."
    Mark: "*laughs* Yes, he is".

So I guess that clears that up. Skiba is a great addition anyway. So let's see how it goes.

Did you think they would spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to write, record and promote a new record just to kick him out after Tom decides he is bored with his current stuff?

As I already stated 5 or 10 years from now Tom might be back. Money speaks louder than anything but you act like as soon as he wants to come back to the band they will welcome him with open arms. Who knows if that's true. "No bad blood" could mean anything.

I listened to a lot of interviews and podcasts when Tom was promoting WDNTW and he wasn't joking. He said it would be the best rock record since Nirvana's Nevermind. Tom's "it was a joke" spin is completely retroactive.

Name me another rock band who have replaced key members (frontmen or co-frontmen the) with fill ins knowing at the time they would be bringing the original member back.

Again, there's no way that is ever going to happen.

He said he was joking and even admitted a lot of the crap he said was because he was on painkillers. Like I said, he also promoted Blink's self-titled by saying it'd "bring world-peace". He's always been like that. But even so, plenty of people are ambitious and hope to "be the best". Kanye probably says shit like that everytime he wakes up.

There's absolutely been cases when bands have brought in temporary fill-ins for important roles, just so they can carry on. It doesn't happen to much with "frontmen or co-frontmen" lineup as they're generally the centre of the band. But if anything, that gives Tom more prominence upon a return. People will plead "it's not blink" like Guns N' Roses because of no Slash, Duff, Izzy, etc. People care more to moan about Tom coming back than Scott Raynor.

But anyway, the original Used guitarist, Quinn, recently took a year-long hiatus but is expected to come back. They filled him in with Saosin's guitarist.
Gary Holt (original guitarist; main songwriter) from Exodus because of his commitments with Slayer. Exodus carried on with tours and were gonna record a new album without Holt but decided not to. Both are examples were important founding members have taken breaks and bands have had temporary fill-ins till their return. Similar-ish cases with Guns N' Roses Izzy filling in after Gilby had taken his spot for The Spaghetti Road.

I'm sure there's far better examples that I don't know about

The fact that Tom himself still says he's in the band. Just because you immediately dismissed that fact doesn't mean others have. The video I provided even shows the interviewer recently asking Matt if he is an official band member. Which fair enough, yes, he is. Buy nevertheless, it clearly isn't just me as clearly many others are still confused if this was a temporary change or full-time. Don't need to be an asshat about it all.

They would have had to pay all that money to record and promote a new record regardless. All we got from the recording process is that Skiba had filled in. Most of the songs are reportedly Mark songs with Skiba harmonies. Unless there's tracks were Skiba carries the band, then his prominence in the band isn't as significant as the others.

Yeah, but you act like Tom is completely cut out off from all ties with Blink. Like his words have absolutely zero merit. Whether people like it or not, Tom still writing posts about being in Blink is problematic, especially if it is disigenuous. He's been saying he was never officially removed and why is he still saying this stuff? It could very well get messy down the line. His recent FB post about Blink got 36k likes. So that's a lot of Blink fans he's influencing.

Those examples he gave are not even close to the same situation.

Just looked it up and you're right. The "hiatus" became permanent. Didn't know that.

But still, it was an example of someone originally leaving the band only "temporarily".

They're not close to the same at all...

I'm not sure how some people can think that essentially saying "I'm right" over and over is a valid argument.

The Gary Holt example is almost the same considering Exodus almost recorded a new album without him, but instead they're just going to wait till he's back. He's their main songwriter too so he has significance in the band.

Like I said, there's probably much better examples out there that I personally don't know of. But the shoe fits, no matter the size.

Almost the same but not at all...they DIDN'T record without him. They waited. It is completely not at all the same thing.

The only difference is the recording of an album which they very nearly contemplated doing. Mark and Travis held out for Tom many times with constant delays. He backed out of the 6 month contract so they decided to go with it. If Exodus went ahead with recording the album, which they very nearly did, then that's a fine example. There's probably better cases that even you know about.

Like I said, the shoe fits, albeit different sizes. Just one band decided to wait on recording a new album, whilst the other gave up on waiting. They're still doing shows, just like Blink (with Skiba) originally did. Plus they're still reportedly just "Mark songs with Skiba harmonies".

That's the whole point of the story. Blink 182 would no longer wait. The shoe didn't fit them at all.
