This morning I took this out with me for a run. This was the first record I have heard since my dad passed away, which still feels like a surreal thing to say. So I'm going to be a bit skewed, but I adore this album.

Tigers Jaw are one of the most recent bands I've discovered that I'd refer to as a "favourite band" and the whiny emo bullshit of the s/t really got me into them (I mean that in the most flattering way). I'm a big Adam fan and his ability to not sing beautifully but still be able to express strong emotions in his voice is one of the most endearing things that helped me love this band.

Anyway, for me this album is probably their best since the s/t and already means the world to me. Also I Brianna and Ben's vocals. They've both made such incredible progress and sound gorgeous. I also welcome calls for a more 50/50 vocal split and hope Brianna continues to believe in herself as a songwriter/vocalist because she is awesome. I can't believe this band made 3 great albums, then lost 3/5 of members and then maybe(!) made their best album after that. Amazing.

God, Escape Plan is something else. Really love the direction they went with this record.

These lyrics just absolutely destroy me. Perfect message for the perfect moment sort of thing.

 

I love Charmer so much that I was really worried this would disappoint me. It didn't.

After a few more listens I'm digging this more. I think all of the songs are good but they do still blend together. Weak points for me are Blurry Vision & Bullet.

I wish there was one or two more Brianna songs in place of those. She absolutely kills it on June, and I think that's the clear highlight of the album for me

Or even a song like Distress Signal where they're going back and forth on vocals would be nice here.

 

Does anyone have, or is anyone kind enough to write, a definitive list of which songs are Adam led and which are Ben led on the first three albums? I have a terrible ear for this.

This does not sound like the album I listened to before.

 

I think on the earlier records they are less distinct. But as I say, I have a terrible ear. But if it is so easy then someone can easily make me that crib sheet

On S/T, Ben does a lot of harmonies on Adams songs but Adam is more prominent

i can see at first how menzingers can be a little hard but it makes more sense the more you listen to them and seeing them live too.

I don't listen to them that much. So it's entirely possible I'm listening to only one guy haha. Montreal, Trying Year, Annina, Bitter Divorce, Brother, and Shoddy Workmanship.
