  3. I just really want to know how the band botched it? are people refusing to listen to the album when it releases next month because of it? did it prevent you from pre-ordering it on vinyl or did you cancel your pre-order? Are you being forced to listen to all the new songs?

Julien Baker announced her 2.26 album also in October and has released 3 singles - damn her!!!

Because I have no self-control, I listened to the song last night and it's predictably great. I don't see how this thing isn't in my top 10 when EOTY talk comes around, I'm too all-in on this band at this point.

Drew, I’m not trying to “police” what the band does. It’s just absurd(as I stated) to announce it so early. I wasn’t aware they were sitting on it before that due to the other reasons. I’ll listen to the podcast, and further educate myself. Either way I’m very excited for this album.

It's definitely okay for a fan to feel like a 6 month rollout with 4-5 singles diminishes excitement for a record. It has for me. Could they have rolled this out differently and built up more excitement for me personally? Yeah for sure. Am I a little more forgiving of the rollout considering the pandemic really screwed up a lot of bands plans? Yeah absolutely. I don't know why that's such a big deal.

Huge TJ fan but not really feeling these songs at all. Massively disappointed with the singles.

Everyone here knew there was an album regardless of the October announcement/preorder. It’s been done since August of 2019.

There’s no playbook on how to release an album during a global pandemic. This cycle was going to be big for them and I’m sure they were lining up big tours around it to promote it so putting off the release until March made sense.

Artists handled this time differently, and TJ did a bunch of things they didn’t have to do that helped them survive the year through the livestreams, merch drops, and music videos.

Is it weird I’ve abstained from listening to two brand new songs from a band I like? Sure, but what remains is the same excitement I have for a new TJ album in 2021. When that day hits we’ll all be back here still talking about it because we all care in some capacity.

This isn’t as bad as the ETID thread where people felt personally attacked that ETID is holding back their album.

Maybe it's just because I never listen to more than like one single from any upcoming album but it seems easy enough to just put it on your calendar and kind of forget about it? I vastly prefer shorter rollouts but if it has to be 5 months so be it

  12. You think this is a long rollout? Porter Robinson released the lead single of his new record last fucking January and it was finished in December for an April 2021 release. Granted, the pandemic hitting gave him a lot more time to work on the album before turning in a finished version, but with campaigns as long as say, Tigers Jaw or Architects or Julien Baker (all releasing around the same time and announced in October), it's much easier to just... ignore certain singles I guess. That's why I haven't listened to anything off this since Lemon Mouth and am still looking forward to the drop next month. Like @johnnyferris said above, there's no playbook for how to deal with this shit.

  13. IMO the non-singles are the strongest songs on the record even tho I do love Hesitation and Lemon Mouth

Right but, like, is that what you would want your fans to do if you were a band and you were about to release something you poured your whole heart and soul into making? That seems like the opposite of what an album promotional cycle should do, doesn't it?

  19. I feel like the vast majority of fans probably don't really mind hearing 4 songs before the record comes out though, and it's also 4 chances for them to be in a news cycle and get the word out that they're back.

The only reason it's really as long as it is is because of the holiday gap. I understand the frustration but it's not unusual and it just seems like they're trying to get the word out to as many folks as possible, which they deserve.

I definitely don’t mind. Pretty stoked to be getting so much new music from them before the album drops!

I would argue that a 5-month rollout, with the holidays right in the middle of it, is not conducive to getting the word out to lapsed fans and especially potential new fans.

  22. idk these days, a record comes out Friday and by Monday almost nobody is talking about it anymore. I'm not saying this is the right solution but I get the impulse to drag this out! and also have a little fun with it since live shows are out

I like the idea of filming a bunch of music videos and releasing them along with the singles, I just think it would have been more effective over like an 8-week period with a new video/single dropping every two weeks. That way they're always in the conversation and there aren't any lulls leading up to the album dropping.

I would think we would all be a bit more forgiving about how things are rolling out nowadays, but I guess not. I don't like having to wait this long after announcement, but to come in here and complain all the time is almost not understanding what the state of the world is right now. Nothing is normal or regular right now. Anyways that's my 2 cents.

  25. yeah I agree but see then they'd be announcing like the first week of January and like people are not spending as much money on pre orders or paying as much attention then
