So, rumor has it we’re getting another new song on 01/01. It’s supposedly called “Taking Inventory of a Frozen Lake”.

If that’s the case, what’s going on here? One off singles or are these all part of an EP or could they be slow rolling a new album?

I’m guessing they’re just singles or an EP at most, but you never know.

 

Didn’t they say that they’re just kind of putting songs out as they want to?

 

Yep, that could be all there is to it. Just was curious if there could be something more to it all. Either way, I’m not complaining!

 

With how much they like releasing vinyl my guess is they pump out a bunch of these songs that are already done and then hit us at the end with a “surprise! Get em all on one disc!” Boom. Album. Without the anticipation or fanfare of a proper release.

 

I respect when bands/artists are like "album rollouts are annoying let's just release songs as they're done" and especially for a band like Thursday but I personally despise it lol I hate having loose song releases, albums are so much nicer to have for collection purposes.

And yea I could just make my own folder of all the loose singles a band/artist releases but bahhhhhh

 

Yea if it’s a matter of doing it this way or not then send em along but I think it’s inferior in almost every way. If they don’t wanna do a proper rollout then just don’t. They’re already putting all the effort into physical releases and new merch anyway.

granted, they could very well just be releasing these songs as they’re finished, but to the degree any band is sitting there debating which way to release songs that are gonna be released, I think this way is annoying and not worth it. Sure it keeps your name in the public eye longer, but how much is that really doing, especially if you’re in the stage of your career where you’re not worried about keeping up with other bands?

 

They haven't even released a physical copy of White Bikes

 

There was a line in a previous Thursday email saying something like "some people end the year with a bang and some start the year with new one, what do you think Thursday is going to do" so it wouldn't be entirely surprising to get another song. We know they were working on multiple songs as well recently.

Personally, I blasted them too much the last few years for not releasing new music and nostalgia tripping to be allowed to criticize the manner in which they share new music now haha. I get it though—I feel like I’ve never really connected with the first Hold Steady comeback album despite liking most of the songs bc they initially released it as a trickle of six Aside/Bside sets or whatever. But I think it’s much more likely that Thursday is just putting a song out when it’s time to stop messing with it and have it be done. Doesn’t strike me as a calculated PR thing or whatever

 

I am 100% an album guy but will always prefer new Thursday songs than not and as someone said, they may well at some point compile them onto a 'release' even if it's not an album or EP per se. White Bikes has grown on me exponentially since it was released. I've listened to it every day. I think I even prefer it to the first single, which I loved. Excited if there's another. Where's the rumours of the specific song title? I remember the update they posted and it seemed like something was coming on 1/1 :)

 

Googling that song title just gives me this thread (lol) and a post on a Russian social media site. That said, I feel like that’s a Thursday-ass song title so I believe it

 

"Russian social media site" AKA the site that's leaked album and single news every single time since man first crawled out of the ocean and tried to put headphones on.

 

I feel like this is at least somewhat legit - two new Thursday songs in not even a month, it literally feels like Christmas.

 

Literally everything in this scene leaks in Russia first, I can promise you that

 

Filter rock on Vk has like 99.8% accuracy when it comes to theses things. so I believe it’s true and a new song is coming out in a week

 

I don’t follow leaks that closely so I was fully unaware

 

The song name is just so realistic !
