I replaced Wake Up with Change and it sounds good flowing into Long Defeat.

 

I quite enjoy "Wake Up", I wouldn't replace it with "Sea Change", even though I like that one too.

 

I love the way Wake Up goes into Long Defeat though. I think an extra song actually does the album well.

 

Listening to the album now and just slotted "Sea Change" in between "Seneca" and "Black Honey". Works well enough for me, I think I may keep it that way.

 

Now this is intriguing. I'm gonna have to try that soon.

 

I replaced wake up with deadbolt.

haha I almost made the joke about how I'd replace Blood in the Sand with Blood clots and Wake Up with Yellow Belly but I think that would be too good and make people who think this album is their best mad.

Not necessarily best/favorite, I think the idea is a "starter pack" to get someone introduced to the band. So you might focus on songs that represent the sound of that album/era the best, or show off a side of the band not represented by other songs.

At least that's the way I approach these.

 

Here's mine. I'm cheating with TAI and I have no shame about it; I thought about picking 3 from each volume, but thought that was a bit too far.

I'm kind of surprised at all of the Deadbolt picks, it's one of my least favorite songs on that album. Still great, but I prefer most of the album to it.

 

Same, but if it had the extended ending that they do live then that'd be another thing.

I dig all the picks for All The World is Mad but almost everyone left out Black Honey and Burn the Fleet.....

So, this is somewhat uncomfortable as no one outside family has heard my voice in many, many years. However, there was an empty house locally (during the window in which the owners had moved out) that I was walking through and decided to take a few rough Thrice takes. Must have been Andy talking about the natural reverb on Manchester Orchestra's new album that was the inspiration; this hollow building was almost pleading for music. Anyway, here is a vocal snippet of the ending of Beggars.
