I woke up with Burn the Fleet stuck in my head and I blame all of you.

that song has an interesting key. would sound cool on one of those string quartet release things

I wish it was more of a staple in their live set.

Your long rants where you repeat the same opinion over and over brings me joy, thank you! I'll still respond with "Eh, negative".

....but you didn't even include the best songs on the album. The best stretch for the album is Long Defeat through Stay with Me. Best 4 song stretch as a band has to be Cold Cash, Killing Moon, All That's Left and Silhouette. Showing those songs to a thrice newbie would be instant conversion to a fan :-)

Take out Promises and Cataracts and I'm with ya!

It definitely would be, but also out of place. I'd be wondering where all the songs like that were on the album. It would def replace Wake Up if we had to switch it out.

Wow this thread freaking exploded the last day or 2.... My thoughts on everything:

-Burn The Fleet is amazing. I especially love Riley's drumming and the Guitar tones on the track. I don't feel like it's even close to a "bad" Thrice song.

-If I had to pick least favorite Thrice tracks, that award easily goes to Cataracts and Wake Up, for me. Don't particularly like All That's Left either, though I'm not sure why (so I can relate to Garrett L. in that sense hahaha). Oh, and Doublespeak.

-Definitely prefer TBEITBN to M/m, but to me M/m is better than Beggars, which I also know is a very unpopular opinion. I feel like we discussed this already a few pages back, though.

-All Thrice is still Thrice, which means it's amazing.

This won't be popular, but Deadbolt - In Years to Come - The Red Death - A Living Dance Upon Dead Minds - Where Idols Once Stood might be their best stretch. And if I were to pick a stretch off AITA, it'd be somewhere between Hoods on Peregrine and Don't Tell and We Won't Ask. As for Vheissu... Between the End and Where We Lie - For Miles... fuck, I can't stop myself.

I'm bored and like this game.

IC: Identity Crisis through To What End
TIOS: See You in the Shallows through In Years To Come
TAITA: Cold Cash and Colder Hearts through Silhouette
Vheissu: The Earth Will Shake through Hold Fast Hope
TAI1&2: Open Water through The Whaler
    TAI3&4: Broken Lungs through Daedalus
Beggars: The Weight through In Exile
M/m: (this game just doesn't work here for me, but gun to my head) Call it in the Air through Words in the Water
TBEITBN: The Long Defeat through Death From Above (not counting Seneca as a song)

I agree with all of these (as well as the artist ones I posted) so I wont post the rest. M/M is the hardest for me because my favorite tracks are all at the beginning and the end.

Some of those being the album's best songs, I wouldn't see why that's a bad pick.

Yeah, they're just scattered for me on this one, but the stretch I chose gets my top two so it "works" I guess.

For my money, their best 4 song stretch on an album is from "Between the End and Where We Lie" through "For Miles."

On the new record, if I am allowed to exclude "Seneca," I would say from "The Long Defeat" through to "Death From Above." If "Seneca" has to be included, I would shift from "Stay With Me" until the end of the record.

I think excluding a song is automatic disqualification for a "stretch of songs" haha

That might be, which is why I kind of straddled the fence and made two selections. But at 60 seconds, it doesn't exactly fit the mold of what a song looks like on the rest of the record. And in an interview I believe one of the band members mentioned how they viewed it as a bridge between Side A of the record and side B of the record. Because it acts more like an interlude, I would argue there is some validity in being a bit more flexible with removing it than say "Night Diving," which is clearly a song within the context of that record.

That said, it is a beautiful piece of music and it is fun to be carried away from Long Defeat to Black Honey via its waves.

I think if they did a Paper Tigers type song, it would have worked better to bridge Long Defeat to Black Honey.

I double checked the rules. It can be submitted, but the judges will have to dock points for the exclusion, though they understand your reasoning.

If they did a "sequel" to Paper Tigers I literally wouldn't have been able to take this album. Probably would've fainted on the spot.

Paper Tigers 2 would just be Dusting singing 'Did I stutter?"

I said that mostly as a joke because it would stand out soooo much on the album. I would probably still be on a high if they did though.

I don't think they will ever write a heavy song again, which is a shame because they still play them live and look like they are having fun while doing so. I feel like with Ed's comments during an interview before the album came out, the interest is still there for some members.

I still think they're heavy (Death From Above, Blood On The Sand), just in a different way. A flat out aggressive Paper Tigers style song would totally make my day though. It's one of my top 3 favorite Thrice songs.

this is no invitation to make top 3 favorite Thrice songs lists. but just in case I already have mine planned out.

Those songs are heavy in tone I suppose, esp giving the rest of the album. By heavy I meant more screaming/crazy guitar shredding type of stuff. Hearing that they played Paper Tigers, Killing Moon, ect live when they came back kind of got my hopes up I guess.

[And top 3 Thrice for me would be: For Miles, The Messenger, Burn the Fleet. In no order
