    just one of those ghosts

"What'd you learn from that? heheheh"
    "What's that?"
"What did you learn from that?"
    "Uh......I don't know."

That interviewer seems like a fun dude, honestly haha.

"What did you learn from a secret Metallica show at a festival in 2003, a festival you didn't recall playing at until someone informed you 15 years later?"

I get the impression they don't really like doing interviews.

    I wouldn’t like doing a three-person interview on a one-person chair either

Been listening to the new track for a couple weeks now and never really went into the thrice forum for it. I really love it, reminds me of a mix between Vheissu and Alchemy, and is better than their entire last album for me personally. Stoked for more music

They've admitted for years that they're bad at interviews. They've also admitted that labels have told them how bad they are at selling themselves. But, I respect their approach: they want their music to speak for them/do the selling (which it has). That being said, Riley has improved the most thanks to podcasting. Dustin may be the frontman, but Riley is the spokesman at this point.

Riley’s a good interview. I don’t remember if this was ever posted but here’s a podcast he was on last year: The Hurley Edition

I thought it was a good interview. Didn't know there was zero over dubbing on their live album, makes me love it even more

Would You Still Be In Love?

I mean, I'd probably be bad at interviews to. I'd probably take them way too seriously or just joke the entire time

I’ve been jamming Thrice almost nonstop for the past week and a half. I’ve gone through all of their discography plus the Anthology live album at least 4 times.

I’m really re-developing my love for Artist – Cold Cash and Colder Hearts really hits hard these days given the bullshit our government has been putting children and families through – and the better tracks on Illusion.

I’ve also re-cemented Vheissu as my favorite of their releases. I understand the love for all of them (yes, even M/m) but for me Vheissu just packages everything that makes this band my favorite in one collection. And regardless of what Dustin thinks he sounds great on that album.

Granted, they get a lot of bad questions or questions they can't answer. But, a good interviewer can make ALMOST anyone a good interviewee. However, when you have 5 minutes and 50 bands to interview, it's easier said than done. I will only do long-form interviews because I have time to research and the ability to adjust during the interview.

It’s tough though because I feel like most interviewers are from mainstream rock stations that don’t really get them in the first place

Yeah, Dustin just isn't good at small talk or improv. Give him time to think about something, and he'll blow you away with insight.

For the longest time, his Twitter bio said, "Bad at small talk." But, once you get him going on something, you'll find he's rather opinionated, something he's now willing to display on Twitter.

I rewatched that interview again, and the interviewer asked general questions that could be applied to literally any band. At no point did he ask them something specific or impress them with his own knowledge of the band. He had no knowledge of their tour plans, "The Grey" or their impending record. When Dustin and Teppei shared this news, he acted completely surprised by it all. I realize you have to interview 50 bands in the same day, but at least pull your phone out for 5 minutes and cherry-pick something.
