I posted an interview on here recently where the interviewer said it to Ed and Tepp and both looked astonished to hear it.

But, I've seen a few people pop up on here to say how it's a fav or one of their favs.

The point is: any song you don't like, somebody likes. It's only a matter of time before someone posts about "Listen Through Me" being a gem.

 

I like it more than Black Honey. I think it suffers, largely, from being sandwiched between The Window and Long Defeat, both of which have strong arguments to be included among Thrice’s best songs.

 

I think it suffers from its chorus, but your point is certainly valid.

 

If this is a valid metric, then this band has like 5 songs that aren’t “written off”

 

Ok I read your comment as "people in general love Wake Up but put it in the forgettable songs" instead of "some people love it, but most think it's forgettable". I thought it didn't make sense lol.

But the band not playing the track live doesn't mean the track doesn't work. It just doesn't sound like THEY would want it, it doesn't mean the track is dismissed by people. Also if people not saying "Play Blinded" at shows means they don't like it, then Lynyrd Skynyrd only have one song people like (Free Bird).

I don’t think the chorus is nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It’s not great, and it’s simple – lyrically, melodically, and even musically – but it’s still catchy, the riff still rocks, and Dustin’s vocals are pretty great.

Every song is subjective. There will never be a THRICE song that 100% of the fanbase dislikes. My point continues to be that you can tell which songs fail to move the needle among most fans as well as in the live environment.

Riley has talked at great length how a song like "Cataracts" didn't translate in the live setting. He'll often say that a song will feel "flat." I was at the show they first tried it at, and it worked for me, surprisingly. However, for the band on the stage, they know when something qualifies as a live song or not.

And there are many songs that they used to play live, per their own judgement or at the fans' request, but have since retired. For example, the band quickly outgrew "That Hideous Strength" despite having a similar level of requests to "Deadbolt" at one point.

I'm still sad that Abolition has been retired the last 8 years.

 

Yes. It's a good song; it's just not a THRICE song. I do admire the attempt at writing a Colour Revolt-esque song. Perhaps, they were thinking it would be their "Weary" of TBEITBN. I'd still swap it for "Sea Change" in a heartbeat since "Sea Change" offers a little Beggars and TAI vibe.

Yellowbelly, blinded, blur, words in the water, anthology are all great songs for me.

Call it in the air is a good song the mix just wasn’t right for it. Promises is a good song even if it’s just like the Weight pt 2. Disarmed is a solid closer.

Listen through me, cataracts, and treading paper are all sort of average. I think they went for a different sound on cataracts and didn’t quite pull it off. I mean I can listen to all of these and enjoy them but they are lower tier thrice songs for sure.

Thrice being my favorite band or second favorite band or whatever, I love all their work and so while major/minor is a good album to me it’s still slightly lower tier for the band. I’d say it’s their worst since the artist in the ambulance. I think a lot of people prefer artist over this one, but I like the straight ahead alt rock thrice over the post hardcore thrice so it may be more personal preference there.

 

This may have already been asked, but what’s the reason for stylizing the band’s name like that? I’ve never seen anyone else do that and just assumed the capitalization on their album covers was more of an artistic choice and not an actual stylization, especially considering the album titles are typically in all caps as well

Wake Up is one of my favs from the album.

 

Keeping things in line with their logo and how it's usually presented; it just looks better. Plus, the best band in the world deserves an extra something.
