I would agree if it wasn't made by THRICE. But, I'm not going to fault them for the most difficult period of their career, both personally and professionally.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Would've maybe made for an okay EP but it's not a good album

Worst lyrics Dustin has written, at least in the somewhat recent era. Good thing he followed it up with my favorite lyrical output of his

    Fight the long defeat.

Worst is such a relative adjective when talking about Dustin's writing. I'll argue that "Wake Up," "Stay with Me" and even "Death from Above" represent weaker lyrical efforts from him.

While the overt spirituality of Major/Minor understandably chafes some listeners, nearly every song is written with greater poetic elegance than the more direct, abrasive style of To Be Everywhere. Different strokes?

Also, this is why Beggars is their best album, even disregarding its musical brilliance. Dustin wrote with a tempered style that expressed his convictions while retaining rhythmic and syntactic beauty, to a degree that he has yet to surpass.

Stay with me and death from above are both well-written, even if the latter is a bit heavy handed

M/M is proooooobably Dustins weakest lyrical album since IC imo. for the record i still really like M/M but i think TBEITBN is leaps and bounds better

i can safely say m/m is the only album where i didnt feel like there were improvements from the last record. m/m is still good but i dont think it built on anything beggars did. TBEITBN was kind of a "reset" album after the hiatus which worked out well for them and now they have plenty of places to go from there.

I’m sorry but I had to take the low-hanging fruit.

To legitimately answer your take, I see more water/air on there than anything else.

I would stump for comparing elements of Digging My Own Grave and Beggars, but don’t hear too much Earth in there.

i think the heavier songs like at the last, all the world is mad, and the weight call back to fire while the rustic production calls back to earth, but the heavy atmosphere is definitely very water/air

Ignore the lyrics for a second: M/m's songs just didn't reach the level they're capable of with a few exceptions. The fact that Blinded and Listen Through Me made it on a record while Red Telephone, Answered, Flags of Dawn, Weight of Glory, Sea Change, etc. did not is dumbfounding.

(I know fans of Blinded and Listen Through Me are going to chime in, but the majority of fans have written those tracks off. There's a reason Blinded has only been played twice live and Listen Through Me zero.)

But, like I said, writing a great album amid personal tragedy isn't as inspiring as one might think. It is for some, but not all.

Plus, the brothers knew D was leaving for the Hill long before that record was completed so I wouldn't blame them for being off their game, especially with their own family tragedy.

people romanticize great art coming from tragic events but a lot of people don't really realize how hard it can be to be at your creative best during your lowest points.

Yea that’s a strange take on Blinded. Who has written that song off?

It's been played twice in 7 years? It's evident that the band didn't like its live feel – a la "Cataracts" – which is why they quickly retired it. Plus, I've never heard anyone say, "Play Blinded!" at one of the 50 THRICE shows I've been to.

People love "Wake Up" too, but the reality is most people will put it in that small category of forgettable THRICE songs. Let me be clear, there are ALWAYS memorable parts to every THRICE song. However, that doesn't mean the song as a whole worked.

Since when do people love Wake Up? You can't love a song while saying it's forgettable.
