I convinced my friend to buy Vheissu without hearing any Thrice song ever. Wouldve been better to set her with Beggars, as that's more her style, but Vheissu was in the store she was in.

Now we wait.

 

yeah Vheissu probably isn't the best record I would recommend to a new listener.

 

I've never been reminded of Deftones when listening to Vheissu, or Thrice in general.

 

Is that what we were discussing? When did that come up

It's by far the best. Still bummed that version couldn't be used officially.

 

I love all the Beggars art, but pre-leak was next level.

I just realized that when I sing "So Strange I Remember You" in my head, it turns into A Wilhelm Scream's "The Pool". Weird.

 

There were like 3-4 variations I think.

Holy crap you guys, I had no idea the Illusion album cover was a bridge. I feel dumb. Also, I always forget how great that original Beggars cover was. On the topic of Deftones/Vheissu, in the special edition Vheissu liner notes, the initial writing sessions were described as sounding like Kid A meets White Pony, so that influence is surely in there somewhere. I hear it most on "Red Sky," for sure. Probably helps that Chino performed that song live with them at one point.

 

I don't think they actually used it, but I'm pretty sure I remember them releasing a handful of alternatives that included this and the beach variant.

They ultimately ended up using their symbol though right?

 

For the digital version, they used their symbol. For the actual physical release, they used the photo of the beach.

 

Got it. And for some reason I thought there was one more version that hasn't been posted yet. But maybe not.

 

That would have been some amazing, highly ironic. I vaguely remember this.

I have the physical version somewhere ha. That's probably why I remembered the beach

 

IMO if you substitute doublespeak with answered and somehow get red telephone in there, maybe swap it with talking through glass or just adding it in there you have a classic album, nearing my love for Vheissu. Have always felt the B-sides would make 2 of the stronger tracks on beggars.
