We reach for the longest shadow

I wish The Long Defeat was *ahem* longer. I feel like it deserves more than two choruses.

Agreed. Might be my favorite song on the album as it is but I personally wouldn't have minded it being more drawn out.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Need to give this more proper listens now that I'm back in town after a weekend in Baltimore, but after the first two passes through, I dig it minus Salt and Shadow. It's a decent track, but I feel like it just kills the momentum that the rest of the album builds. It reminds me of Beggars because it has a slower tempo and is a more subdued track, but Beggars seemed to send that album off in a much stronger fashion IMO.

  4. So I called Music Today...erm...today and they definitely told me they're out of smokes so if you're that person who got told they'll send one out to you: congrats, you're apparently very lucky if they weren't just bullshitting. The rest of us seem to just be SOL. Definitely avoiding them at all costs in the future, though I think this is the first time an artist I like has worked through them, so hopefully that won't be too much of a hardship.

Did you do express shipping? Reading over on VinylCollective are saying the first 20-30 packaged were the ones messed up.

  6. I always go for the cheapest shipping option, so I doubt it.

And I didn't order it like as soon as it went up or anything so if they shipped them in order like that I wouldn't have been one of the early ones.

Preorders went up around midnight right? Pretty sure I ordered at like 3 or 4 in the morning

Hmmm. Sounds like we won't be getting answers.

Expecting mine at the door any minute.

Schrodingers's vinyl. It both is and isn't the Smoke until I open it.

  8. Pullin' for ya, bud. Did either Thrice or Music Today address the issue at all on twitter or anything? At least an apology for the mishap even if they can't really do anything about it? Annoying, if not.

Nothing has been publicly addressed as far as I know.

An indescribably good feeling when I saw that sticker.

Ended up with a black instead of the smoke that I had originally ordered. I called the store and they said they knew about the issue and should have a solution within a day or two. I am guessing that they are all out of smoke because they didn't mention anything about sending the correct one to me. Has anyone else heard anything new from Music Today?

Yes...but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts

Ah, gotcha. I was still looking at it from the perspective of a drone pilot; the answer he received was from a chaplain who was just as jaded as the pilot, and at that point couldn't offer anything better from a theology point. As in, "do the will of God" was an indifferent, exhausted reply.

has anyone had any issues playing the vinyl? I preordered one with Fingerprints in Long Beach to get into the acoustic performance and the (excuse my lack of education) middle hole seems particularly tough to get onto the platter.

I tried really hard not to make it sound weird, but basically, the hole seems tight.

anyone else having this issue? I also preordered the one from the website so I should be receiving it pretty soon. if there's anyone else having this issue, hopefully we can figure out who to contact to see if anything can be done.

@christophsays I think that problem is somewhat common. There are a few records I own that do the same thing (Come Now Sleep).

oh okay, interesting! this is the first record I've owned that's ever done this. ok, I'm a little relieved, but also a little bummed because I don't wanna risk damaging it by forcing it on and basically trying to yank it off. thanks for the heads up.

I'm also now just catching wind of this black instead of smoke thing. really hoping I get the smoke I ordered. weird circumstances all around, it seems like. I did a quick scan over at VC and no one's mentioned my issue, and some folks are reporting different possible reasons why they're getting black instead, and even someone who ordered black and got smoke. super weird.

Maybe after a few plays it will "wear in" a bit? But I understand not wanting to break/damage the record..

I just ordered The Lack Long After from Amazon for $11. Anyone have any idea which pressing/variant it is? There are quite a few pressings so I have no clue.

I'm going to have to really start limiting myself now that I have Amazon Prime. It's way too easy to spend money now ha.

That's the part of the album I sing to myself the most. Haha

I don't think Dustin would consciously write a song like that against anyone from one of his personal experiences. It just doesn't seem to fit his character. Although I can see why that would be an appealing interpretation.

I think it's simply about the recent influx of Whistleblowing (wikileaks, manning, snowden, panama etc) and just singing from the whistleblowers viewpoint.

My Smoke is similarly tight like that. I have a couple of records that have done the same thing, but I've not played these records enough to now if they wear in at all.

Got my vinyl in, it is indeed the smoke vinyl, so happy right now, was actually pretty nervous about this one.

Looks so good. I actually prefer this to the clear smoke that I was originally expecting.

Yup, that's what I thought we were gonna get as well, I actually considered not doing the smoke because of it, as it stands now it's one of the nicest looking ones I own.

Man, I love that very first acoustic guitar part that starts the record. It has this Beatles acoustic guitar tone. However they mic'ed and mixed it sounds like Across The Universe or something. I think they aimed for that and then it explodes into the rest of Hurricane.
