Beggars and Illuminate are both in my Top 4 as well!

    The other two are:

Sever Your Roots by The Felix Culpa
Come Now Sleep by As Cities Burn

    I do not exist.

Here for the Come Now Sleep love. That's number three on my list I think.

The show in Dallas last night was probably my 20th Thrice show (lost count long ago) but they still managed to give me goosebumps throughout the night. What an amazing band.

They really did mix up the setlist this time around and throw in a lot of surprises. I shouldn't be surprised that this band keeps on impressing me.

I'm sad this tour didn't come near me :(

I thought the flow of the setlist was a little weird, but I enjoyed all the songs they played last night.

And the Bronx were a lot of fun.

I thought both openers were great! The Bronx were indeed a blast, everything an opener should be.

What songs didn't flow together for you if you don't mind me asking?

I think it comes from knowing certain songs as openers/closers and then having them in the middle of the set. Seeing them go off during the end of Beggars then head into Hold Up a Light felt weird. And the whole Branch in the River =>Red Sky => Black Honey => Daedalus => The Grey kinda felt weird to me. They all are great live by themselves, but the sequence just didn't feel right to me.

I can see that. I know I said it earlier in the thread, but even though I think Hold Up a Light is one of my least favorites on the album (still love it), it coming on right after the epicness of Beggars was pretty cool for me. I've seen them end with Beggars a few times now, so putting it in the middle was fresh to me but it did make me go "oh wait, is their set almost over now?" lol.

I loved seeing Red Sky but agreed that it shouldn't have broken up the flow and maybe been placed after Daedalus. At my date we got Paper Tigers 3rd so seeing that back to back with Branch in the River was so cool!

this (redacted) shit is really fuckin' childish

I'm surprised they keep playing "Hold Up a Light" on tour given the universal negative reception that song has gotten. I'm glad to see "Paper Tigers" in the setlist now, and closing with "To Awake and Avenge the Dead"... mmm. When I saw them in 2016 their setlist didn't have "Stare at the Sun" either, but I got to see "Broken Lungs", "Come All You Weary" and "Firebreather". Overall, I think the song selection is better now, even if the album they're promoting isn't as good.

    Cursed by my ancestry

Its not universally negative reception though. Plenty of people in this very thread like it a lot and I would assume that goes for the general listening public as well.

I really dig Hold Up a Light and think it sounds even better live, but I could say that about every single song of theirs that I've heard live.

Yeah hold up a light is great and I'm glad they're playing it live.

I find myself coming back to Hold Up A Light more and more. I don't think its the most representative song of Palms in terms of style, but definitely a good example of Thrice making a radio friendly rock song.

I've always thought it reminded me a song that could be on a Foo Fighters album, which isn't a bad thing at all.

I rolled my eyes at the hype before they were disavowed. The latest Manchester Orchestra was so much better. AOTY.

I just had this discussion with my friend last night at the show. Manchester and the other release to me are far superior to Palms. Not to disparage Palms, which I think is fine, it's just that Black Mile is leaps and bounds better. To me, Palms has good songs, but Black Mile is a great album.

My only gripe with their setlist was that

    1) they could mix it up more if they really wanted to. I mean I've been to MANY Thrice shows over the past 15+ years, so I've heard them play more of their discography than most, but aside from the Palms songs, I've heard 90% of the set before.

    and

    2) If they're willing to play (some) older songs, play something besides Deadbolt (I get it everyone wants Deadbolt) and TAAATD. They literally have a shirt that says "I've heard Thrice play Deadbolt 40000 times" - Well guess what, I've never heard them play A Torch to End All Torches or In Years to Come. Even Trust, Kill Me Quickly or Pheonix Ignition would be awesome (though I did see them play those back in the day)

I feel like this is an issue many bands struggle with. I've heard similar complaints about Bayside.
