We reach for the longest shadow

Haven't spent a lot of time with the live stuff, but I've been testing some headphones/speakers, and this album has become my go to for that kind of stuff. Just a perfect *sounding* record, at least for my tastes.

  5. Didn’t Nicole get kicked out of the band years ago? I haven’t kept up with this band in a long time but it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, to me, anyway.

I don’t really care but I also don’t care to hear those songs if Tom isn’t singing them

Yeah the argument is that they (Nicole) wrote the majority of the album they are playing on tour and it’s weird they are doing so when he is out of the band.

Personally I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but I posted here for additional perspective.

I think it’s a little weird that the band would *want* to play those songs, but I don’t blame them for trying to make a buck either.

I don't think it's weird at all. That album is an emo staple and this tour is a tribute to it. People want to hear them perform it. Also, art outlives its creators. I can think of a couple bands that have rotated members and continued playing older songs the then-absent members wrote.

    beautiful and chequered, the end

I have seen every song on that album performed over the past 10 years without those members performing with them (Nicole , Tom and even Greg).

    it’s fine.

yeahhh, I think it’s fine. wasn’t Nicole their primary songwriter through Harmlessness? that logic would take most of their discography out of the running for touring. they’ve also always credited the whole band as a collective with the writing of their albums.

Tom was no longer touring with the band by the time Whenever was released, as well. as much of a bummer as it is for him to not be here to perform it now, David has been singing those songs for a long time.

i still think the way they've handled Tom since his passing is just kinda weird though. Chris was on that podcast breaking down WIE and he like somehow got through it practically not bringing up Tom's existence at all (NyQuil either). And so things like this tour and lyric callbacks have raised some eyebrows with people I've talked to

I listened to Whenever, If Ever for the first time in a while and had some thoughts.
    1. Damn, this is such a good album
    2. It seems like it was influenced/has similarities to Pneuma by Moving Mountains. Something about the emo mixed in with post rock type sounds. What do ya’ll think?

probably everyone who was writing emo music around that time was influenced by moving mountains (who, in turn, were pretty heavily influenced by the appleseed cast, who in turn...)

Pneuma is just the best album ever, isn’t it?

I never got into Moving Mountains the way everyone else did, but I’ll never turn my nose up at post-rock influenced music with vocals

Seas might be my favorite Prawn song. Forever sad they didn’t go with Yip for their full length after that.
