More smooth brains than a Stop The Steal rally in here.

i feel like a lot of songs after ncth don't really connect live very well. sister cities always hits but everything else just kinda falls flat

Stained Glass Ceilings is perfect how it is including Jason Butler feature.

Honestly couldn't think of a better spot for him or a better feature.

The build up in that song to Jason's feature is *chef kiss*

I would probably agree, especially in it's placement on the album brings everything down hard

Probably because everyone was conditioned to believe they were just a pop punk band and then they finally started doing something a little different just for people to clamor for some dumb song from The Upsides

I fully think that this is the reason they stuck to their pop punk sound a bit more this album as opposed to progressing even further on the sound the experimented with on Sister Cities. I remember playing The Ocean Grew Hands To Hold Me on the first SC tour and it just fell completely flat with the crowd

they played a number of sister cities songs at sad summer in 2019 that just completely killed the crowd. it broke my heart.

It's probably up there for me too, but I often forget about it because of the album it's on, which is a bummer. It works much better as a standalone song for me, primarily because I find it so odd that they threw in the "saviors" callback only to completely abandon it after track 5.

    Okay, fair point.

Yeah it's weird, placement, production, chorus falls flat too. It's like, I enjoy the beginning and as soon as that chorus hits it kills me because it sounds like it should be so much more

My bold Wonder Years take is that the second half of TGG prior to the closer (basically the run from Teenage Parents, but especially from Chaser, to Cul-de-sac) is kind of meh and unmemorable in comparison to how insanely awesome the first half of the album and closer are.

the bastards, the vultures, the wolves is a top 10 track and they need to play it live more

This 100%. Never understood why that song didn't get more love. I think it's the best song on the album

is this including culdesac? thats my fav song from the record. i love the second verse so much; the harmonies and the oooooo’s are super fun

but yeah, i dont really like that section either

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

my takeaway from the last few pages of this thread is that everyone else hates everything I love about this band. fun!

I can understand this take completely, I don't find that section as meaningful as 1-6 and then the closer

An American Religion -> A Raindance in Traffic -> Madelyn is my meh stretch on TGG.

Nothing offensive about those 3 really, it's the rest of the album being fantastic when those 3 are just fine

I feel like including Culdesac in here is probably the boldest part of this, considering how much people seem to love it. I never cared for it for some reason (although it's not my least favorite of the section) and, unlike other fan favorites like Coffee Eyes (which I never cared for either), the Burst and Decay version didn't make me like it significantly more either

Top five on the record. People are talking in here like cardinals doesn’t exist. Maybe the most underwhelming leadoff single they’ve ever released
