While Point A is true, they say this every record tbf. TGG had a trailer where they say pretty much the same thing in an interview style iirc

That is a great observation on Point B btw; I adore how he was able to take inspiration from those types of records. I just wish he had the foresight to tailor it to the soft/loud/soft style so it isn’t super jarring haha

I'm really loving this record and it's got all of the things I had hoped from a new TYW record and more. That said, I agree with a few points made on here about the track sequencing being a bit odd in places so re-arranged a few songs, most only on Side A, and personally enjoyed the record as a whole a lot more that way:

    Doors I Painted Shut
    Oldest Daughter
    Wyatt's Song (Your Name)
    Summer Clothes
    The Paris of Nowhere
    Cardinals II
    Lost it in the Lights
    Songs About Death
    Low Tide
    Laura & the Beehive
    Old Friends Like Lost Teeth
You're the Reason I Don't Want the World to End

My new “gripe” with this record is that it sounds like a better sounding NCTH with lyrics that don’t resonate as much as the previous albums do as I’m not at that stage of my life yet. While I enjoy this album, it makes me frustrated that NCTH didn’t sound like this, as that album really cuts deep for me lyrically.

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. It is something that sticks with you forever.

My own life was changed by a similar accident when I was young. It radically shifted the way I am as a person, the way I look at interactions and meaning and death. I am still in therapy finding new pieces of it that have forced me to look at the world through different lens even 25 years later. I say all that not to scare you, but to remind you that it will not always be this raw and piercing. There are paths forward, and it sounds like you are doing the best you can to take them.

All my love to you in this horrible, dark season. Find and follow the things that bring you closer to the light. I am thankful that for you, this record may be part of that.

Ok, because I liked this record so much, I am doing a rerun on discography including records I rarely visit. Namely NCTH.

HOLY FUCK. Maybe it’s that I am listening on lossless iTunes audio with good headphones but god damn, this record is phenomenal?

I don't remember an album like this in a long time that causes not just one, but multiple songs to just be on a loop in my head daily

RE: production on previous records. I, too, am someone who rarely notices that stuff, I just don't have the ear for it. I do notice a general and rather significant difference in clarity between Hum and the last two albums, though.

For me, "Raining in Kyoto", "We Look Like Lightning". and the outro instrumental on "The Ocean Grew Hands to Hold Me" always sound like they're being played through blown speakers. It always bummed me out, because they're all so powerful. The rest seems fine.

Regular or deluxe? I'm still waiting on my deluxe, but it's been delayed a couple weeks. I've got a shirt coming, too.

NCTH's rules. Don't love the closer, Palm Reader, or Stained Glass Ceilings; but those first 8 tracks are unbelievable.

Dropping in to mention how much I love the guitar tone on Songs About Death.

Wyatt’s Song and Lost it in the Lights have a section that remind me of each other, I wonder if that’s intentional. They both have a section that repeats two one syllable words in the same manner (Your Name and What if), though its not the same amount of times which throws me off on that theory. Still cute regardless
