Having a 3 year old has made some of these songs hit me like a sack of bricks. This album is something else.

I've played it a few times at work this morning and it gets better each listen.

Cause it wasn’t true that they said the whole song is about COVID. And truth & accuracy are important.

I only have a mouse and I am going to give him a big ol’ sloppy squeeze when I get home.

    I always do this.

    u wut m8?

I think this may be their best work as a whole. I may love No Closer to Heaven or Greatest Generation more due to pure nostalgia but these songs are just so good!

Yep. My first child will be here in 8 weeks. I have two step sons and this really does mess with you. I love it.

I can't remember the last time I broke down bawling to a song. Second time today! That closer punches me right in the feels.

Holy shit this is such a good album.

Taking a break from this to do a deep dive into their discography to wrap my head around exactly where this fits for me. I'm pretty convinced right now it might be their best record.

As someone who never really checked out the band pre-Upsides, is the chorus of Lost It In The Lights a reference to a specific song? It sounds like it must be, but Genius is not being helpful.

  13. It would be a pre-TWY band, probably The Premier, but I haven't listened to that record in a while so I can't place the lyric off the top of my head.

I've only listened to this once & barely even started to digest the lyrics... and I can't imagine this NOT being my favorite TWY record in like a month. Holy shit

The launch into "I don't wanna die" at the end of "You're the Reason..." is going to give me chills forever.

  16. Listened a lot today and I love it but I will concede that the sequencing is occasionally strange

I briefly skipped through some of those songs the other night but still unsure of what song he's referencing.

I didn't find it either (though I've spent very little time with The Premier stuff.) I wondered if maybe it's just something unreleased, cause there are references to being 18 in The Premier songs, so this could theoretically pre-date even that.

Is there another "Dancing with a Ghost" or is that a Valencia reference on Paris of Nowhere??

i’d say after finishing it ended up being a bit of a mixed bag for me. like 50/50 songs i liked a ton and songs that i’m okay not hearing again. the ballads didn’t work for me at all. but wyatt’s song, lost in the lights and the closer are all really, really cool

    Almost certainly a Valencia reference

I was thinking the same thing. Probably something unreleased.

Absolutely love this after a few listens. Production wise it’s very easily their best. a very good mix of challenging new ideas and a little bit of old style. Laura and the Beehive may genuinely be one of the best songs they’ve written, got me very emotional this morning

Chiming in as well. This album is just beautiful. Just driving into work and getting lost in the songs. I kind of wanted to drive around an extra 15 minutes to take it all in!
