can't wait for another album cycle of people arguing whether TWY are pop-punk now that there is a mandolin or something on one song

"The Ocean Grew Hands To Hold Me"

    eh, fake please be fake

If they are releasing the closer first I will wait until the album is out to listen.

No Closer to Heaven isn’t that bad of a closer. Seems like people just hate it whenever an album has a softer/slower/more subdued closer. That one’s always made sense to me

the closer was released first but the album is meant to be played in reverse order

We reach for the longest shadow

I love slower/more quiet closers, I just don't like that one.

I’m trying so hard to find a ticket. I live in Philly so I’ll be around that day.

Pretty much every album with a more subdued closer gets comments like “this shouldn’t be the closer, (other song) should be the closer instead”. Not saying that’s the only reason someone might dislike this one, just a pattern I’ve noticed

We reach for the longest shadow

just looking through 2017... Circa, Taylor Swift, Brand New, Menzingers, Code Orange and I'm sure a lot of others had great closers that were slower/quieter than the rest of the album and they all work great.

Edit: @FTank thought i quoted you, not sure what happened.

Thank you! I know it’s willcall but I’ve seen a few people who’s friends can’t make it.
I tried buying the second they went on sale and still wasn’t able to

Based on my very shallow investigation into shazam ID's they seem to give the last track the lowest ID number, so Im guessing that tracklist is in reverse order.

I seem to be of the few that think TWY albums are front loaded, and each one loses me as it goes on.

So, if the last track on the new album is a banger, that excites me.

Yeah I mean I always prefer to hear closers in the context of the record so I hope that's true and this is actually the opener instead.

  22. That album just generally wasn’t good.

Similar to "New Room" on the new Sorority Noise NCTH is just a quick 2 minute acoustic track without much going on. When you have songs like "I Just Want to Sell Out My Funeral" as a closer fans expect more. Whether songs like that or 5+ minute sprawling tracks make the best closers is a matter of opinion. The type of album and writer's intent is obviously very important as well.

  24. NCTH is an album about feeling defeated in the face of a broken, oppressive world that seems to kick you down at every turn, so a low-fi acoustic closer with lyrics where the narrator takes his failures and builds something beautiful out of them makes perfect sense. TGG is an album about redeeming the generation that seems doomed to only live and die in the suburbs, so a lavish, 7-minute closer that ends the record like a rock opera and retreads every theme also makes perfect sense. I wouldn't want NCTH's closer on TGG and I wouldn't want TGG's closer on NCTH.
