Lonely is my jam and favorite off the record. That being said, its opening riff makes me feel like I'm listening to a Fallon album, not TWY.

that riff reminds me of the riff on "Dismantling Summer", doesn't feel strange at all to me

That riff reminds me of The Wonder Years 'cause TWY wrote it.

Lonely is one of the best songs this band has ever written and I think it fits perfectly with the rest of the album

It fits on the album, sure, I don’t think any of the songs on the album don’t fit. I just don’t think it works slotted after pyramids of salt

I think pyramids of salt is the track that's slotted wrong not it must get lonely. Salt should come after title track

im fine with the tracklist as is but i totally see where yall are coming from. that Lonely riff actuall does sound a lot like a Brian Fallon riff which makes it even sweeter. as far as the topic of the song goes i get why it is where it is but it can seem kinda jarring in between two darker, more somber tracks musically.

Hmmm this is also sounding sensible to me

I just want to clarify that I meant no hate with my comment. I'm a fan of both artists and it was just something I thought sounded similar. I should've worded it better :(

im glad ive taken my time with my adendum to my longform rant from the band thread because ive uncovered a lot more themes, references, and just general details that come with spending time with an album. that should be done soon i guess. for right now im not too worried about it im just enjoying this album and binging on The Upsides, Suburbia, TGG, NCTH, this, and the respective b-sides and i couldnt be happier

I have been listening to NCTH a lot lately as well as this, I like NCTH a lot more than I ever thought I would haha

  13. listened through it for the first time in a good while the other day and uh, the run from Bluest Things to Stained Glass Ceilings (which is the entirety of side B) is so much better than I remember. I had gotten it into my head that there was a drop off after Cigs & Saints but that's not really the case. I still think Slow Dancing should have replaced IWSBTBB though.

Palm Reader is probably the weakest song on that side/the album, but the rest is great. I’ll die on the NCTH Hill! Pretty sure my girlfriend and I have decided that our first dance song at our wedding will be You in January

Palm reader Alternate is sooooooo much better, it makes it one of the best on the album for me

Thanks For the Ride is still the weakest song for me on NCTH. That song always feels like a mish-mash of verses, riffs, and choruses from different songs that were never completed and then put together.

Have no intention of really revisiting NCTH outside of a few tracks to be honest. New record does what NCTH was trying to do, but much better.

This would be my ideal/semi-realistic 19 song TWY set:

    Raining in Kyoto
    Pyramids of Salt
    Cardinals
    Don't Let Me Cave In
    There, There
    Passing Through A Screen Door
    It Must Get Lonely
Me vs. The Highway (or a different b-side)
    Sister Cities
    I Don't Like Who I Was Then
    Dismantling Summer
    Cul-de-sac
    Woke Up Older
    The Ghosts of Right Now
    The Devil In My Bloodstream
    The Ocean Grew Hands

    Encore:
    Washington Square Park
    Came Out Swinging
    Cigs & Saints

NCTH is my second favorite. i think my least favorite song on it is maybe You In January. that album, like all their albums as ive said ad nauseum, means a lot to me and soundtracked a very specific moment in my life. the only real issue i have with NCTH is the production and honestly it doesnt rly bother me all that much, its fine enough to where it doesnt take me out of the album but i fully recognize it could be clearer and leaves room for improvement.

i love the production on this one and now that ive had this for about a month and im pretty confident in saying its my favorite and it continues to be rewarding after several listens.

Suburbia > Sister Cities = Greatest Generation > No Closer To Heaven > Upsides > Get Stoked On It!

If we're counting Won't Be Pathetic Forever or Sleeping On Trash, I'd probably throw them just below Upsides. Maybe Sister Cities will overthrow Suburbia with time for me, but it'd have to overcome a lot of nostalgia I have for that record

I don't really even think of Upsides or GSOI when I think of this band, and I most likely won't ever

less than 48 fuckin' hours until I see them oh my godddd

e: and since we're doing this

    tgg > suburbia > ncth > upsides (>>> gsoi!)

sister cities is easily their most ambitious record but I'm not ranking it yet

get stoked on it! is decent at best but I don't consider it TWY canon because the band don't either and that's fair enough.
