The Wheel Of Time (Amazon Prime) TV Show • Page 24

  1. She might be all that by the end of the series but through almost seven books, she treats the people that are supposed to be her friends like absolute trash. I feel like she's grown the least of all the main characters save for maybe Mat who is almost as equally annoying to me.

In reading some thoughts online it looks like it's a pretty popular opinion she sucks early on but gets better as the story progresses. I guess we shall see!

I'm a non-book reader and I watched season 1 in about a week. I really enjoyed learning the rules of this world episode by episode, everything about the Aes Sedai, the colors and warders, the scary ass whitecloaks, the way of the leaf, etc.

Some highlights for me were Nynaeve healing everyone, the badass opening fight scene with the pregnant woman, the funeral scene for the warder, traveling in the ways (reminded me of the fellowship escaping moria).

My favorite character is Lan. Loved him from the start, I'm even more invested knowing his backstory. Nynaeve's distrust of Moirane had me worried, so I'm glad there wasn't some twist. I like the both of them. Most annoying would be Egwane, she thinks she's really special. Sorry girl, you're not the "most powerful channeler in 1000 years" or the dragon reborn.

I'm really tempted to read the books. I just worry because there's so many! Maybe I'll try the first one and see how long that takes me. What's the consensus on the books? Are the last books not satisfying since the author died?

Hello! Welcome! There’s a small active core of us who have a book series thread for this, too, and I think there are at least three or four people working through the series and another 7-8 who have finished it. So, even with it being an older series, the books still call to people. I think most of us agree that the books co-written by Brandon Sanderson are more than adequate/actually great too.

If you’re interested in the lore side of things, this series is definitely for you. The books run deep with worldbuilding (some would argue too deep at times). By the end of the series, there’s something like 70 POVs giving insight into different factions of the Aes Sedai, Whitecloaks, Tinkers, and more you’ve not met yet.

I always tell people to treat the series as a couple smaller groupings. 1-3, 4-6, 7-10, 11-14. 1-3 is basically a completed trilogy, 4-6 are three of the best fantasy novels ever but also kinda let you know if you want to be in for the long haul or not and 6 gives a good exit point imo if you don’t want to be.

Since you love Lan (I think everyone loves Lan; he’s great), there’s also a short prequel novella that shows how he and Moiraine met and started their journey to find The Dragon Reborn called New Spring that you may find interesting, too!

I really hope that the success of the first season gets Amazon to trust the people making the show a little more and give them a little more creative freedom. I re-watched a few of season 1 episodes and they really needed to give the beginning of this show more time to breathe and find it's footing. I know the showrunner fought Amazon really hard about the pilot having more runtime and ultimately lost, and I really think more time setting things up would have done wonders for this version of the story.

I’m one of those working their way through. On book 7…I hear the slog starts here but so far so good!

I hear book 10 is the worst of the slog. I might download the audiobook for that one so it keeps pushing me forward until it picks up again!

Yeah, I am finding this. I love the story but I do not think I like Robert Jordan’s writing. It’s incredibly dense for things that shouldn’t be. I am going to keep pushing but it’s definitely taking me at least twice as long as say a Stephen king novel of similar page length

  18. I've read the first 9 and I started in November. It's been tough at times. Jordan can be way too wordy and he takes forever to move the plot along. I also hate dropping characters from the story for like two whole books because I forget what they were up to. They are much easier to read when he does a point of view for a few chapters then goes elsewhere. When he focuses on one storyline for like 200 pages I get bored.

I definitely forget what's going on with characters. I like the writing. There are stretches where I'm thrilled and don't want to put it down and stretches where I get a little bored

I'm on book 13 and at times I really wanted to give up but it's picked back up and I'm enjoying it again

Just starting book 8…could be in the minority here but I feel like the prologues of these books are really hard to get through. Each time I get to the next book, I kind of dread them but then I’m in once the story starts again. I might just not understand them because they are usually tons of new or minor characters that I can’t keep track of yet

Was this a only a panel for origins and they will have another one for the series or is this the only one? Pumped for a trailer/release date. Cool that they want to do Shadow Rising in S3!
