Yeah the first scene of Season 7 better be X characters bloody brain smashed body lining in the dirt. Or even better yet I wouldn't mind seeing the whole eenie meenie miney mo from Negan's perspective this time and actually seeing the bat whack again in all its full glory.

I think Jon Hamm would have been a better Negan.

As far as the actual hits with the bat go, do you think they would ever be able to show it the same way they did in the comics, in such an extreme graphic way, on television? Or was cutting away the only real option they had? I'd bet convincingly filming a human head being obliterated would be very difficult lol

SO glad this was brought up. seriously so fucking hokey in such an intense scene.

this is pretty much what i was trying to say a few pages back. this is arguably the iconic moment from the comics and they blow it completely.

speaking of the comic vs. the tv show, i can't stand how they've taken aspects of characters who were killed off early or supposed to still exist and spread them across 3 or 4 others. making tyreese into a complete baby for the sake of showing some semblance of character development was the tipping point for me.

they showed herschel get nearly decapitated, and they've done much worse with walker deaths. however, this was so brutally done in the comic that i doubt they'd be able to - even on cable.

    Just The Worst

The biggest issue I have isn't that they didn't show the actual beating. The idea is that by not showing who they killed, all sense of dread and hopelessness is gone in favor of a "see you next time!" ending. Hell, just showing a corpse like they had in the pictures foreshadowing it all season would have been enough to drive the point home.

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

How anyone could take a beating like that "like a champ" is beyond me ha. A friend raised a thought that maybe it was Abraham or another guy because after the first swing, he/she didn't go straight down. And if it were someone like Maggie, then she would have fallen straight down.

I just don't think that line has anything to do with who it was that got bludgeoned. Since that's the line he used in the comic, they wanted to recreate that scene as close as possible.

Did anyone get the feeling they haven't actually decided who to kill yet? Me and my gf were on about it last night that maybe they are seeing the reaction from fans who to send off.

I think we can cross Glen off as they are known to not follow the comics directly.

Our thoughts were Abraham too since the episode featured a lot of him.

    Just The Worst

In the comics, Abraham gets killed the way Denise got it with an arrow through the eye from Dwight. I just can't imagine why they'd not kill him that way only to turn around and have Negan do it. That, and Kirkman has said that he wishes Abraham had been alive during the arc that followed.

    I'm Back.

Yup, exactly this. For some reason Negan looks really skinny and not very threatening, at least to me. In the comics, he did seem to be of a bit bigger build; at least thick necked and wider upper body.

Speaking of Tyrees, did anyone else notice the Saviour that was exactly like Tyrees?

I thing that particular leather jacket he wore just made him look slimmer! JDM is not exactly a small dude; certainly not noticeably smaller that Jon Hamm, say.

    I'm Back.

Negan just seemed like a regular dude, only thing that made him scary was the shit ton of guys with automatic weapons surrounding him. The Governor was at least bigger than just about everyone else and was imposing in his own right.

The comparison is going to have to be made, even more so that it was during the arc of both characters in the comics.

has there been another big bad guy after Negan in the comics?

    Just The Worst

Just recently introduced. Negan is a force in the books for quite some time.

Thought Rick slit his throat, might not have died but I do know this happened.
But really, gonna be hilarious to see Ezekiel with his fucking tiger.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

I know Negan is bigger in the comic but I still think JDM is perfect. I don't think I would find Jon Hamm more intimidating. The fact that my heart was pounding and I didn't miss the f-bombs at all has me pretty confident they casted it totally right.

They would have made such an iconic scene even if they just made it clear who died with audio. I didn't mind the POV shot at all (the dripping blood was so stupid though, how do you end two episodes in a row with that b-movie blood on the camera ugh)

  17. drstrong

    I'm Back.

JDM's portrayal of Negan is awesome, at least so far. The stark contrast between he and The Governor is a nice touch (almost happy vs brooding).

Since Negan never really got a back story in the comic, I'd be happy to see season 7 open up with a couple of bottled episodes on how Negan got to where he is. There is a lot of story and potentially interesting characters in The Saviors' camp.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

I agree that Jeffrey Dean Morgan did a fantastic job as Negan, I am excited to see where they go with him in Season 7. JDM did say in an interview that they seem to want to follow the comics for his character.

I really think the cliffhanger was pretty unnecessary, if people have watched 6 seasons they will be back regardless for season 7. Even if they they did like one shot of the face of who he choose before the POV bludgeoning, or a audio bit that made it clear I feel there wouldn't have been the backlash. It's been clear from the season leading up and the comics someone was going to die so the cliffhanger just felt weird.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

I agree, even if they just did a 90-minute episode part way through season 7A like they did for Morgan in 6 that delves into Negan and the Saviors rise. Jeffrey Dean Morgan did mention in an interview that Robert Kirkman is working on the backstory of Negan currently and that all he knows currently is he used to be a used car salesman.

    I'm Back.

Yea I saw his old job when I looked up his character just now, that was recently introduced I think. Well, that explains his charisma at least.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out where Rick goes from here; on one hand he seemed completely defeated and on the verge of a breakdown, but then again he will obviously be pissed and wanting revenge. I know they might not show it, but I'd love to see the group walking away from the site of the beating. I don't know how that part went down in the comics, but I could see Negan waving them off telling them to have a nice day or something to that effect.

I hope, hope, hope there is no time jump come season 7 whenever we see the group. If there is another episode BEFORE we see the main group, fine, but pick up with Rick RIGHT after the beating.

Not sure about the rest of you, but I've tapped out of TWD multiple times, always came back because of the hype surrounding season premiers. But I am getting tired of the superhero aura a few of these characters have, it would be nice to see a dose of reality served to the main group. When was the last time a main character died, Andrea? Not counting Hershel since that was season 2.

It just couldn't have been any less necessary. Can they be that out of touch with the fans? Like pretty much everybody, even people that don't read the comics has been so hyped for Negan and know he kills somebody. That scene lost all it's impact now. I find it hard to imagine I can get hyped for the start of season 7 now. Just the cheapest cliffhanger ever.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

This is the interview I mentioned: 'The Walking Dead': Jeffrey Dean Morgan says 'I understand the frustration' with finale cliffhanger

JDM says he is under the impression season 7 will pick up exactly where 6 ended with it being revealed who was at the end of the bat. So it doesn't sound like there will be a time jump, I feel a time jump after that cliffhanger would alienate fans far too much.

  23. skurt

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

True, the speech he gave was chilling and fantastic but that cliffhanger just castrated its chilling and devastating effect.

  24. drstrong

    I'm Back.

True, I'm just so curious to see how they leave the scene, especially since Daryl and Maggie can hardly walk and the emotions will be off the charts.

  25. drstrong

    I'm Back.

Felt a bit rushed, no? Especially at the end when he finally chose someone. And man oh man, did he have the group in the palm of his hands because no one made a peep until the starting beating whoever that was.
