Cum for the Cum God. Prestigious

    TUG liked this post.

I’d like to think he did so ironically, but somehow I don’t anticipate that being the case.

Rick McCallum is a funnier character than we've ever had before, but if we can make him work.....

its stylistically designed to be that way but if we can diminish the effect i think it can work

i may have gone too far in a few places

i legit HAD to track down those behind the scene vids after watching the RedLetterMedia videos. Its fascinating watching someone who has NO IDEA why the original trilogy work try to recreate that magic in the most boring, lifeless, sterile way possible. I love how after they get a few drinks they all start being like "nah its actually a really good movie!"

Lol, I did the same. The exchange of

    “it’s gonna be great”

    “It’s gonna be great”

    “It’s gonna be great”

    “It’s gonna be great”

Makes me laugh every time. The tension in the room when George is making a bad call is palpable.

I'm torn between enjoying all the shitposting and being a bit annoyed that un-ironically liking this album on here is a meme now. I get the production complaints and how they ruin a lot of people's enjoyment of the record, but something about the nonstop dunking on an album that comes from a very sincere place of trying to move on from a best friend's suicide rubs me the wrong way somehow. I'm NOT at all saying this absolves the album of criticism by the way, I think I'm just in a weird spot since the themes of the album hit me almost immediately and I've really connected with it, I actually haven't been this impacted by a new record in a good while... and there's very little substantial discussion or critique on here at this point other than how much it sucks and shitposting.

Really trying to express this in a way that doesn't feel like I'm bashing people who don't like the album, because believe me I don't think that at all, I agree with some of the critiques even. Tbh I'd love to hear this album with a totally different production job/mix and see if that changed anyone's opinions.

Before everyone dunks on me for the above I'll summarize my main critiques of the album:

-I do think it's a bit overlong, they could've cut maybe 4 tracks and made it closer to normal album length and it wouldn't have lost much.

-The production choices were interesting, but I'm not sure at all that they were the right fit for this concept/album. I think such a grand concept would be better suited by different, more polished production... I don't have much of a "trained ear" at all so that's my uneducated take.

-Bert's voice definitely doesn't sound that great on a lot of these songs, but I do think a lot of that comes down to production/mixing. Better production could've almost certainly compensated more for his voice not being what it once was... that being said a lot of his vocals here oddly reminded me of Claudio Sanchez lol, not sure if that was intentional on his part or not.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

I'm was thinking of that today, every time I click on the notification for this thread I don't remember what thread it was cause it has nothing to do with the album in the album thread. Like cool if you hate it but why keep coming in here.

I wish I could hear a clear mastered version of this. It's so muddy. I got a bit more used to it today but still I love most of the songs and it deserves better sound IMO

Yeah I think I agree with the production complaints now, "muddy" is a good word for it. I have no production experience whatsoever and usually can't do much at all to single out what makes good or bad production, but I do think the choices made on this record hold it back.

My thoughts exactly, but I'm used to it on this website. So many albums that I hold so dearly have been ripped to shreds on this forum, haha. I think a lot of times this site can be an echo chamber, but also just that my personal tastes have always been to the left of popular opinion.

And although I understand the production complaints I do not agree with them. I've been wanting a raw Used album for a long time and this sounds great to me

That is true. This is one of the rare times (and this NEVER happens to me anymore lol) where I'm actually preferring discussion of this album on Sputnik to here, this album is legitimately polarizing but that site seems to be capturing more of the full spectrum of opinions that I've been seeing from my friends on social media and elsewhere. Some people are REALLY enjoying this album and others are REALLY disliking it, and I actually like when an album provokes that strong of reactions in music fans. Most of the regulars on this site just happen to fall on the latter side it seems.

I also don't think this has any filler. Which is the first time I can say that about a Used album since ILAD probably. So I wouldn't cut anything, and I'm even interested in hearing the 25 songs they wrote but left off the record.

I know it is very early, but I am curious if you have any idea where this album ranks for you yet?

I really appreciate these posts. I am not in love with this album (mostly because I have not been able to digest it all yet) but I think it really does offer a whole lot that I am excited to explore more of. I laugh at the jokes, for sure, but I would love to discuss this album on a deeper level after some time has passed.

We don't joke about The Used. They are the creators of all that is beautiful. They don't make music, they make candy. Candy for your ears.

The jokes are A+. I am not bashing people who make jokes. I am just also excited to talk more about this album. I think it is ambitious (for better or worse) and am curious, once everyone is settled with it, what their opinions on it end up being.
