This was awesome. Loved all the Easter eggs and how they handled it not shoving them down your throat

 

Yeah this was fun

 

I won't accept a Zelda movie unless Tingle is Link's sidekick who does all the talking

 

I feel like Lord and Miller (among others) raised the bar to the point where stuff like this looks like a baby movie, which is fine if you’re creating solely to distract children for 90 minutes. But recent examples like “Puss In Boots” and “Turning Red” show that you don’t have to dumb it down for audiences to be on board.

I appreciate that they did a great job making the Mushroom Kingdom feel like a real, lived-in space, they probably could have devoted more time to creating characters, crafting jokes and a plot that doesn’t rely solely on references.

It also sucks that directors directed “Teen Titans Go To The Movies,” which probably has more laughs in the first 5 minutes than this whole thing (and also made about as much as one showing of this on a Saturday afternoon).

 

As a Mario fan, this was great. Pretty much what I was hoping for with fixed expectations.

I’d really like to see Animal Crossing and Kirby films that tie into this universe.

Donkey Kong Country and Luigi’s Mansion seem inevitable at this point.

 

I love how much money this made. They proved the concept, so hopefully they make a smarter sequel.

 

8/10 movie for me, really loved it a lot.

 

The only things I would change would be a removal of *most* of the 80s songs and an addition of 5 - 7 minutes to flesh some scenes out.

 

It was very whiplash-inducing to see how fast Toad and, later Peach, embraced Mario. We're off to go on an adventure because we've gotta keep this under 90 minutes so no more time for any feelings at all about the situation!

 

speaking of toad, key kinda stole the show for me as toad.

 

Toad was a better character in this than he has any right to be and Key is the reason. I see Toad being attached at the hip with Peach in all future films.

I was kinda baffled how quiet my screening full of children was. This seemed to be lacking in actual jokes especially from directors that clearly have good comedic timing if nothing else.

Nintendo might have fought Illumination on doing anything they didnt like such as good jokes (illumination's output is dire but those movies have funny bits) and Illumination might have fought back on Nintendo with bullshit such as licensed music

 

I like that Toad fucks unlike Mario and Luigi

 

It’s pretty funny when Peach comes back to the castle and says how they lost Mario and there’s this big, dramatic gasp from the crowd. Like, they met him once or twice for like two seconds and barely interacted with him.

 

Yeah, there were a lot of weird things like that.

 

one of my co-workers is singing the peaches song and he is a 50 year old dude so yeah that song is a hit lol

 

And she said he wasn’t important

 

I was asking some people today if they had seen the movie and a lot of them knew the song without seeing the movie at all.

 

I keep wanting it to be peaches come from a can

 

am i the only one that thought that mario/luigi’s grandfather was a nod to captain lou albano? (i’m that old.)

 

It will already be the highest grossing film based on a video game after today passing Sonic 2. Insane numbers

 

This is might be a watershed moment in the way that Spider-Man (2002) was when it opened.

Comic books are out. Video games are in. And hopefully, some of them will even be good

 

But Spider-Man is a good movie.
