    Movie ruled

the amount of visual and musical Easter eggs was incredible. I don’t think I was ready for how cool seeing that much stuff from the games in that level of visuals/as a living breathing world would be. I don’t think that’s just slapping a Mario coat of paint on a threadbare frame - the level of care taken in bringing it all to life was way beyond what I expected when this was announced

the story and pacing was adequate, maybe even a little better than that. Could have been a little less cheesy goofy in a couple spots, but that’s kind of what you get with a kids movie so w/e

Pratt was also fine! The intro commercial was enough to convince me they made the absolute right choice erring on the side of generic voices instead of cartoon italian

    legit 7/10

  2. I loved the intro commercial and the family dinner scene which I 100% did not expect we’d get.

I thought we’d start in the Mushroom Kingdom with even less than the little context we got

Pratt felt like an impression of Billy Crystal doing a bad impression of New Yorkers.

same, just felt pretty immediately like “oh this would indeed have been pretty grating across 90 minutes” haha

This film has me wanting a Peach game where she has to save Mario and Luigi and keeping her abilities from this film.

It is kind of funny that the usual suspects were mad that Peach had powers because in the games where she is playable her gliding ability makes her arguably the best character. She breaks a lot of Super Mario Bros 2.

Super Princess Peach exists. Don't know if it's what you want, though.

I had no idea that existed, but I would like Nintendo to make a more recent game

If it's live action I will literally only watch if Link is twelve years old, just to nail down that Zelda is a kid's story, and it has been from the start. Family film Wind Waker adaption would really work imo.

I am not watching a Zelda movie with Austin Butler in a wig and pointy ears. Adult Link only ever looks cool as a cartoon. Sorry.

actually... if they figure out a way to make the adult version not look embarrassing...

an OoT adaptation would be pretty sick. both Links.

Weird attitude to take. OOT Link is 17 in the future, which feels right to me, if we're comparing to most Japanese RPGs and anime.

EDIT: This was in response to the first post.

I'm saying live action is more of a minefield if you try to play it as serious fantasy (like I've been seeing in speculation threads all over the internet) rather than the campy family friendly adventure stories the games are

You gotta have Link be a kid if he's gonna be played by a real person, I feel.

if they actually cast a teen and not an adult man in his 20s it might work

Cast a teen but the voice that comes out is Patrick Stewart.

    Things have changed.

The needle drops sucked across the board. Very weird how fast everything took to get going once Mario got into the Kingdom. Loved the blue star thing. Voices were totally fine. I found myself quietly fist-pumping and clapping at a lot of stuff. Successful movie.

I know 80s needle drops are nothing new in animated movie but it was noticeable that besides the Shrek 2 song I'm not sure kids would know these songs haha, also Sabotage is the only Beastie Boys needle drop it's probably in the bible

I was only coming here for ~~~discourse~~~ but honestly this place might be the worst. Morrisey complaining about peach and saying they only sit in handicap seats is a new level of lol

Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword have arguably the best stories in Zelda games and those stories were more adult than previous zelda storylines. When I mean adult I mean a Link that is 18-22 years old not like 30.

Though, I think Timothee Chalamet would be a good Link if they went live action.
