I liked this more than my 6 year old daughter. Was worried when that there wouldn’t be a plot but I mean there was. Not really sure they could do anything besides a “caper” style movie. Was pumped that Peach wasn’t a damsel in distress but basically trained Mario. Also funny to see the origin stories of sorts. Honestly thought it was the perfect length and didn’t get bogged down anywhere. Visuals were crazy good. I laughed at Bowser singing more than I probably should have.

Whoever demanded to replace some of the score that was composed and replaced with needledrops like “take on me” or “I need a hero” should be put in jail

This was fine. I had some fun. But it could have been great if the script didn’t do the bare minimum required to qualify as a movie.

“it’s Mario who cares” isn’t an excuse when the Lego movie exists and Barbie is potentially about to be one of the best films of the year

honestly once Shrek used I need a hero that should have ended anyone else using it

That’s an example of a well crafted sequence. This use was lazy.

Now that I think about this, I agree. In the moment I didn’t care much.

I’d be kind of interested in like a Zelda anthology series where each season is an adaptation of a different Zelda game.

Give me that bizarre and amazing Link’s Awakening season.

Do people understand what i mean, though? The plot of zelda games is "link collects the three things and then he goes to eight different dungeons." Checking dungeons off a list in a tv show is not as entertaining as doing it in a video game

I think they should just make a trilogy of Zelda with all 3 films being the same story, similar to lord of the rings. Shot on location in New Zealand like Lord of the rings. Lots of practical effects like lord of the rings. Basically I think they should make a Zelda trilogy in the vein of lord of the rings.

Zelda's bottle episode is the Water Temple.

Honestly, as long as they make liberal use of side characters to provide dialogue that wouldn't otherwise exist, I don't see how spending some episodes in a dungeon and breaking it up with sidequests like Lon Lon Farm is any different from your everyday fantasy anime.

everyone talking about Zelda when we all know Luigi’s Mansion is the next perfect movie for illumination to make

Just saw this. I enjoyed it. Pretty much everything I wanted in a Mario movie all meshed together. Peach and Luigi were my favorites, but I like Mario, Donkey Kong and Bowser too.

With the success of this I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a sequel in a couple years on Yoshi’s Island or Donkey Kong. I’d like to see Luigi’s Mansion as well.

No I definitely get that and certainty I wouldn’t be invested in that and only that every episode. I do think there is enough lore to mine from the surrounding stories though to develop an interesting script. I mentioned Link’s Awakening partially because it was my very first Zelda game as a kid and, while on the surface it’s this strange little story on Koholint Island with talking animals and a giant fish in a giant egg on a mountain top, the whole thing is existential as hell and its themes of the fragility of existence itself resonated and stuck with me for years. Underlying sorrow is an aspect of the Zelda world I’ve always admired and I do think an emotional piece could be created out of it. I could see where enough artistic liberties filling in plot might leave some feeling like it’s not even Zelda anymore. I’d just be interested to see what someone could do with it were the property in the right hands.

Pratt was fine, minus a few parts. Now, Cranky Kong, that was super miscast. Didn’t sound old or cranky. 0/10.

just got back from a 9:15pm packed with kids and babies. Two groups left early cause their baby was freaking out. Like, yea, dipshits, your baby isn’t gonna like being in a loud theater at 10:30pm. People from Florida are TRASH.

The amount of people who proudly post showing how severely incompetent that are is staggering. Like, twitter is a free website where dumb people make sure everyone knows how dumb they are. It’s wild.
What is happening with trailers these days? At Regal it’s anything from starting 5 minutes late to runs more commercials with like 6 trailers (tonight) to two trailers and one commercial (before John Wick). I used to be able to consistently know I can wait til the 3rd or 4th trailer to do my final bathroom run. Now I have no idea when it’s safe to go.

    THANK YOU!

Those were god awful. Did not work at all. Absolute failure. Whoever pushed for that shit needs to never be apart of any art again. They should be banished.

Oh. As for my thoughts on the movie now that I’m caught up…

It was fun. I don’t know if we needed an origin story though. Who doesn’t know who Mario and Luigi are? But it’s very brief, so it’s a minor complaint. it was fine, not very good, but there is enjoyment to be had.

A lot of small details in poses and quick music references made my brain happy. Swinging Bowser by his tail, chef’s kiss! Their hands fluttering out when they ran. Just small things.

The voice work was solid from everyone. Even though Cranky Kong was miscast, the performance given wasn’t bad, it just did not suit that character.

Was not really a fan of the Bowser song basically being played twice. A waste of a mid credits scene. It’s very short, so it’s not a big complaint, but it felt so forced. Like, yes you got Jack Black and he can sing, doesn’t mean Bowser needs to sing, twice. Not feeling that stupid all.

The score was great, but the needle drop songs did not work at all. Truly baffling. That had to be some forced studio thing, right? Like what creative person who knows anything about Mario would agree to that? It was like biting into a chocolate cookie with no sugar. Sure, it looks like the real deal, but as soon as you taste it, you know something is wrong haha

I thought the end credit scene was a little weird in how they didn’t show him. But we see a pack of them running in the background in one scene. Not sure why they think his appearance needs a reveal. I guess I was pretty underwhelmed with both post credit scenes.

Movie was straight fire from the DK fight on.

The star run at the end made me think of the star run courses on Mario Maker. Always so satisfying. It was cool to see a version of those here.

im sure more will come to me over the weekend. Overall, Mario fans will find a lot to enjoy here.
