I like the production work he did with The Menzingers. I don't know if The Starting Line are a good fit for him though. What's Neal Avron up to these days? He used to produce everything it seemed for a moment.

Also if there is a new record it may be recorded already in secret. That would be fun.

  10. Still doing cool shit, lots of mixes and writing lately

  13. I loved the EP so I would take anything from them

  14. I’d personally love it if they went to someone else, but it seemed like they did the EP with him out of convenience so I’m certainly not gonna hold my breath

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

EP sounded incredibly flat so I really hope they don’t work with him anymore

I think yips a much better producer now

  17. Yeah on one hand he did the EP four years ago and on the whole has gotten a lot better since then.

But on the other he still botches records every now and then and I would be very upset if he fucked up a TSL record

  18. And the best TSL albums utilize a sound he is very bad at doing: clean, big, full, and dynamic.

That EP sounds like it was recorded in a tin can.

I’d like to find the interview but I remember Kenny saying that he wanted that EP to sound almost like a garage band and something about how they didn’t want him to do anything but leave the sound of the room intact. I didn’t really like how it sounded and they could have pulled that off a bit better, but I thought it was a strange choice either way.

  21. I remember this too. I feeeel like it was a written interview, but it might have been on a podcast? Cause I can’t find it either, haha. But yeah Kenny said something about how they wanted to capture a pretty raw performance, with maybe a little bit of overdrive on the vocal track. IMO they accomplished what they set out to do if that’s the case, and great songs always shine through anyway. But if they made something longer at any point I’d hope for something more..... dynamic. Haha

The thing about yip is he helps bands achieve the sound that THEY want. Whether fans always like that or not is a totally different question. But if bands weren’t achieving what they set out to do, they wouldn’t be working with him over and over and over again. He has shown he can do a ton of different sounding records. I understand the dislike of some of the mix choices on his albums but I don’t think those choices only come from Will.

  24. Doesn’t make it sound good. A good producer also says no.

    I think there’s definitely a tour. It’s 20 years, hence the “est. 1999”

Plus, Matt asked for a good tabs website (jokingly). Could mean he needs to learn the songs....for a tour.

My dingers crossed for new jams though!

Also, I don’t mind Yips stuff, but TSL does not suit him, IMO.
