I’ve said it before but D-Girl has the B story line of Pussy wrestling with his status as a rat at AJ’s confirmation. Maybe Vincent Pastore’s best performance of the show

Exactly this! Worth it for this part alone. The scene where he's scrambling to put the wire on while his wife is banging on the bathroom door and he has to hide it while she unlocks the door and then he attacks her before their son comes in and pulls him off.

And I loved his talk with AJ. You can see he's being torn apart as he talks about how good of a guy Tony is, which culminates in the scene where's crying in the bathroom. So good.

That stuff is influential for shows like The Leftovers and has some of my favorite moments in the show. But I guess it's like the dream stuff which is hit or miss for some people. I really enjoy when the show gets weird though and felt like that multi-episode sequence was compelling- also brought out some of the greatest performances by Tony's family.

I only have watched the show once, and just this year to boot, but I already miss it dearly and get urges to rewatch. when I do I don’t think I will skip any episodes, even the worst of them.

I also remember my first time watching Gandolfini act like an average person was kinda mindblowing to me.

lmao at Tony's "I'm supposed to get a vasectomy when this is my male heir?" after AJ drops a whole ass dish in the kitchen and shatters it. Rude, but lol

Yeah, I didn't expect him to apologize given what we've seen of his character so far, so it was a good scene

Tony is constantly torn between trying to be a Gary Cooper type like his father and a 21st century father with empathy. He has learned enough through therapy to know his father's actions led his son to crime and he doesn't want to do the same.

    Finished season 2. Quick notes:

    "What are you reading?"
    "Chicken Soup for the Soul?"
"You should read Tomato Soup for the Ass, it's the Italian version."

    - Janice smoking Richie was not what I saw coming, but it was clear from the way things were going that he was not going to survive this season.
    - I love that Chris was going to get in on a scam with "Poke-man" cards hahaha. Took me back. This season aired in 2000 and I was in 6th grade so yeah, that checks out.
    - The way Tony gave Carmella the fur coat was hilarious. "My suit's grown a beard! It's alive!!"

RIP Pussy. Dude was really trying to turn it around and got caught all because of a series of fever dreams. That bit where he was a talking fish was hilarious.

    On to season 3!

Who was turning it around? Big Pussy was getting more and more unstable. That's why he started thinking he was a detective on a stakeout.

The scene with Pussy on the boat is really wonderful and sad. The effects of Tony's sickness and dream-world still linger. Everyone's on edge and acting a little strange. Sil goes up-deck with tears in his eyes and reverts to childlike behavior ("don't yell at me!"). Tony's "did she even really exist?" at Pussy's attempt at telling a story to bring back old times is heartbreaking.

"Not in the face. Give me that. You keep my eyes?" :verysad:

i love the ending of season 2, the final scene at meadow's party as they pan the crowd, show all the characters either happy or pretending to be, while showing basically the trail of damage they caused throughout the season (the motel druggies, the empty broker office, the boarded up sporting good store, seeing davey leave the motel and get in his car to presumably drive west, then it shows the water). really great stuff. man i love this goddamn show lol

although Junior singing and meadow drunkenly running out of the restaurant at the end of S3 might be my favorite season ender.

ok when Carmella told Tony his mom died that was one of the simultaneous "oh, wow" out loud moments from my wife and I. It happened off-screen and wasn't unexpected, but still. She was just the worst tho. And now Janice is back, who is also the worst.
