If it was revealed to all be scripted then I guess that would rule out a second season, which would be sad. Unless Nathan has another equally insane project lined up, I need more Nathan. But I agree there might be some sort of twist - the Vox article posed a theory that Angela could not be completely real. I dunno. This show is fascinating, I just watched ep4 open mouthed with my face right against the TV in shock, hilarity and horror. It's a breath of fresh air.

 

I could see this being the rehearsal for a project where someone actually wanted to do this, and Nathan shows them this season and they realize they shouldn’t do it lol

 

I think the crazy numbers guy doing that interview rules out the idea that this is all scripted

 

And Kor being Kor while on Cash Cab. I’m pretty sure (most of) it isn’t scripted.

 

He was genuinely offended by Patrick being anti Semitic and some of the Angela stuff

 

Yeah there’s no chance this whole thing is scripted, the best moments all seem very real and even take Nathan by surprise.

If he’s going to do a wild reveal I don’t think it would be a fake out like that.

 

I don’t think the shows scripted, but I have a feeling there will be a huge twist at the end.

 

The interview he did with Vulture makes me really really think that the big twist at the end will have something with his IRL relationship he mentions in it and that at some point he'll do something where Angela acts as a surrogate for his ex-wife. The divorce talk with Kor made me feel pretty validated in that
This is just my "here's what I think the wild ending will be" that I've had from the start of the show, but we'll see.



I hope there's some post-mortems about the production of the show that we hear about when it's done (I don't expect this to get a 2nd season/direct sequel and so far I don't really think it should). I'm curious how COVID impacted the direction of the show; it feels to me like it initially was intended to really be just "NFY but more serious and personal" but that COVID made him take it to a slightly different direction. To me there feels like a notable difference between the first episode and the rest

 

I think they get another season unless HBO original shows get completely fucked over

 

Well, I guess a better way to put that would be I don't know if I want another season of The Rehearsal, but certainly another season of an Existential HBO Nathan Fielder Comedy.


We also have The Curse coming out eventually and I don't know if Nathan Fielder + Safdies can be topped by anything.

 

Speaking of which is there any indication on when The Curse is coming? Did it shoot already?

The fact that he's doing that also could be an indication that he's not planning on doing more of this show

Holy shit this last episode. This show is insane. Him moving into the actor's home and then moving into a simulated version of the home he had that actor movie into absolutely killed me. It also took me a minute to realize that Nathan listened to Angela's story about her dad not being around and then created that situation in their rehearsal.

 

Maybe it's because I just watched it this weekend, but it's basically like Nathan watched Synecdoche, New York and decided he wanted to do it for real.

Edit: I see I'm not the only one to make this connection

 

The biggest Synecdoche moment was when Nathan became part of the troupe while someone else played him. It would be great if it causes renewed interest in a mostly forgotten masterpiece.

 

I've never seen it but all the talk around it makes me want to.

 

I can't see any reason not to. Even if you dislike it it is an experience.
