welp. guess we'll see. there's plenty of sexism to wade through as well, so much so this almost reads like something else going on that would make her so irritable beyond just being a super angry sexist racist prude

not a fan of the inevitable body shaming and slut shaming that will inevitably (and has already started to) come now that there's allegations she did amateur, even if she didn't it wont matter now

Ughhh... this is still pissing me off.

The only good thing I could take away from this is that I'm fairly good at following reliable sources/individuals.

Edit: also this community is pretty special.

  7. Took me a while to realize/articulate after watching that video what's been bugging me about some people in my group of friends: even though they're not racist, they think that simply acknowledging race is racism ("I don't think voter ID laws are voter suppression targeting people of color EVEN THOUGH you linked to multiple sources proving that point showing that people of color are systemically disadvantaged when it comes to obtaining the necessary ID"), and saying that people deserve special treatment because of their race is victimization ("Isn't it racist to think people of color can't succeed without some extra help? They just need to work hard! My parents did and eventually got citizenship and they turned out fine. Stop making people of color the victims!"). It's fine that you can befriend anyone regardless of race, but you're delusional if you think the rest of the world thinks that way and current systems of power--GASP even in America!--don't reflect that. In an ideal world, the color of your skin wouldn't determine opportunities available to you. We're not there yet, so stop acting like it. We have work to do, and by screaming "PC! SJW! First Amendment rights!" any time we call out speech that could potentially steer ideology--and in turn, action: hate crimes and harmful legislation--in the wrong direction, you're just getting in the way and being completely counterproductive. In some cases, maybe the correct answer is somewhere in the middle and it's okay to be moderate. With race, it isn't; there's only one way forward, and you're holding us back.

I feel like Drake shys away from talking about racism so as not to alienate his white fans so this is really interesting to me

omg. So I was complaining to someone about racism and the "I'm not a racist, but..." qualifier, and she agreed and was like idk how anyone can be okay with that and then went on to fetishize black babies from Africa (where in Africa? Just Africa. Okay) and I was like you're doing it too! Right now! sis this is a form of RACISM. And she laughed like I was joking. I think people interpret my side eyes and words as jokes when I'm like no but really y'all are wrecked rn and this is not a drill.

I've had this problem when I try to gently break it to people that they're being racist. The other option is straight up, no sugar coating saying "that's racist," but that gets them to just immediately shut down cause in their head, there's no way they can be racist. i guess for a third approach -- I haven't tried this -- if they laugh like you're joking, drop any and all facial expression and stare at them silently until they're forced to think about what they just said.

I think my biggest issue is that I have a dry sense of humor, and I'm non confrontational generally, so people just assume I'm joking. One time I told someone they were a horrible person and a racist, and they still laughed like I was joking. I think that some people are so used to their beliefs being validated by others, that anything else must be a joke. I also think I'm just not taken very seriously and am kind of a novelty, like ~there's Kiana and her wacky ideas oh what will she say next!

I do think the last thing works tho. I've noticed a few times that someone will be kinda sussing me out and treading the waters to see if I'll validate what racist thing they're gonna say, and if I just stare blankly they stop themselves and change the subject.

I'm constantly joking and its hard for me to get taken seriously without going to an extreme and getting like actually angry, and I hate how I can't really bring up anything I hear in any way that isn't hugely awkward or frustrating. I have no advice because I have no solution, but it sucks.

I was telling a coworker how excited this family I work with was when they found out my last name and realized I'm mixed. She was like uhh why would they be excited about that? like oh yeah I forget some people are represented everywhere and dgaf or understand that connection when you meet someone like you.

I was waiting to make a turn and watched a car swerve towards a black man who was crossing the street. The driver swerved back into his lane fast enough for me to hear the tire screech on the pavement. Made my blood fucking boil. I tried to catch up to get his plate number but he was gone.

So I went on Instagram to see a picture of an ex of mine, and I have not stopped thinking about the picture since. In the past things this wouldn't get to me, but seeing my white ass ex dressed up as Frida Kahlo. She is not your fucking costume!!!! Stop accessorizing her image when she fucking hated yours. Brown face right before my eyes. The typical fake woke white boy. There's a Cinco de Mayo "party" at work tomorrow and it's the stereotypical "I just want tequila and tacos hahahaha". 95% of the building will go back to wanting Trump to build the wall on the sixth. The only saving grace for tomorrow is I'm teaching the residents basic Spanish, but I imagine it will end up with my coworkers messing up with words on purpose to make them sound "funny".

Why do I have to work????

Earlier in the day a coworker was whining that we had to have trainings about racism cause "we all know not to be racist" and I'm like.... Do we? I feel like the trainings are meant to educate about racism cause most racism i experience in the workplace is that insidious kind where they don't even realize, or claim not to realize.

And then later on she was talking about cinco de mayo plans and was talking about dressing all stereotypically and she was like "oh this was probably the racism kiana was talking about earlier." And then laughed like it was funny and I was like. K.
