There is definitely a lot of truth in this thread:

 

I don't agree with scoring women on a scale of one to ten. That's gross. However, I do believe it is true that there is the expectation that black men should be open to dating any and every white woman.

This and the followup thread on white male dating entitlement behaviors - aside from "scoring" women, the tea has been spilled.

 

Agreed. I definitely saw this when I dated women that were upper-middle class. Even within that, the racial hierarchy was determinative of the degree to which white men would be more aggressive or angry, e.g., when I was relationship with a Chinese woman, there was more of a sense "what are you doing with this black guy", as opposed to when it was someone that had darker skin. There are so many dynamics in this it is difficult to unpack, whether it is the conception of women as property or the racialized way in which "romance" should be denied from undeserving races.

 

I recall not being machisimo enough for my ex's cousins from Ecuador.

How do you deal with people who think calling out racism is bigotry?

 

hahaha but seriously though

I guess I could say something like racism is bigotry towards someone's identity that they didn't choose, which is different from being intolerant towards ideas that you choose to believe, and that there is such a thing as subtle racism that leads to or enables overt racism, but I don't know if that works because I'm a bad person who avoids dealing with those people in general.

 

I don't know, people get so defensive when you call them racist even though it's essentially a technical term, but I guess I'd phrase it as them not being systematically oppressed

Today I was casually telling my co worker who is black about how I've had my bag searched at the port authority.

So of course my white co worker says, "you don't have to agree. You could just say no."

Me and the other guy are like, "yeahhhh... you are white.."
