I guess I can be killed by a black police officer, so that's an example of multiculturalism.

My dad does that. He thinks he can say it in jokes. I don't say anything anymore cause he says he knows real struggle and I find stuff to get upset about. His black friends apparently don't care when he "jokes" with it and he's the type to give his non Mexican or non chicano friends a pass to use slurs against mexicans in a "joking" way too. He knows it bothers me but he just laughs and calls me pc. He's a fan of all those shock comics that use slurs too.

Idk how this turned into a vent about my dad lol he's my fave person in the world but our views def differ.

I used the N word a lot growing up. I live in a very diverse area where it is common. Only folks who don't really use it are lily-white. I get why many of my friends, POC, actually now that I think about it... non black men of color use it. Our parents came to this country and were told to assimilate to (white) America. Growing up me and my friends (whether consciously or not) realized America is not just white, so we appropriated or adopted the cultural norms of other ethnic minorities, mostly the black community. I think part of it is trying to carve out our own cultural identities. I guess Eddie Huang would be a good example of this. But often times I find such language and mannerisms used more as a form of amusement, like putting on a costume. The more I notice the more cringeworthy it is.

I don't think my peers have given this intersection of race and culture much thought, But it is this thought process which led me to not using the N word anymore, among other things.

I grew up usually being the only brown kid in class so my mind was quickly colonized. In our community I would be labeled an ABCD (American born confused desi...even though I wasn't born here it applies). Using the n-word, to me, was like listening to Wu tang and wearing Sean John....trying to be black. At the time that was disgusting to me so instead I picked up the guitar and learned to skateboard. Reality of both scenarios is exactly what st. Nate posted, trying to carve our own identities but better relating to black Americans because, well, we're not white. We adopted the culture of the other without appropriating, since we lack any real social and political power.

    What an idiot I was.

In high school, it was only permissible for Puerto Ricans and black people to say it, and that was because of our shared African history. That allowance dissipated for me, once I realized that, beyond my group of friends, there was a racist discourse within the community, in which they leveraged their non-blackness as a means to climb up the racial hierarchy.

In the past, colonized by radically different cultures at different points in history. But because each culture was "white" that doesn't really matter I guess?
You're statistically far more likely as a white person in the states to be assaulted by a black person as a white person. FAR more likely. The police aren't gunning down black people. Black people are gunning down black people and white people. This is a global phenomenon btw, even in countries that never had slavery.

Canada doesn't keep racial crime stats since it does away with the utopian multicultural ideal that we are trying to make but the last time they did, in torn in 1988, black people accounted for 80% of armed robberies.

Tell me again why white people are responsible for the global actions of black people even in countries that never had segregation or slavery.

56% of violent crime against white people is committed by other white people. Stop getting your statistics from Trump's twitter feed.

You're missing the point that most white people consider "a black man looked at me" as assault.

the amount of racism I am seeing in my country right now (canada) over the Black Lives Matter "protest" at pride is disgusting. White people here live in a bubble where they think racism doesn't exist because we are Canada. All I am seeing is large groups of white people tell minorities to shut up about wanting equal representation because "Racism doesnt exist here", like no.... the fact that you are getting mad at minorities for speaking up shows how much racism still exists here.... sigh.

It never ends. This is daily life. These are the gruesome practices which confer life and opportunity on others. At a certain point, a black person just feels frightened to do anything. He was handcuffed, he could do nothing and yet, he still had to die.

"Body cameras worn by the two officers involved fell off during the altercation, but there is footage from a dashboard camera and at least one surveillance camera, Louisiana state Rep. Denise Marcelle told WAFB-TV.....As some on social media pointed out after the shooting, the state of Louisiana has extensive legal protection for cops, such as its recent “Blue Lives Matter” law. The bill, signed into law by Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) in May, allows prosecutors to bring hate crime charges against people who attack police officers, EMTs or firefighters."
