That Hotel and Portland, Maine (Portland, Maine shows up on Apple Music but Spotify ends with Leaving Nashville)???

man, the more i listen to it the less i understand why everyone is raving about the new kacey musgraves. especially when so many far stronger country records have been released this year.

i was really hoping it'd grow on me with repeated listens but so far it seems to be having the opposite effect. it's bumming me out because i don't like the feeling of being this negative about a kacey musgraves album haha.

Leaving Nashville is technically the closer.

Were those the songs you were talking about though?

I’ve had pretty similar feelings about that album. I like it just fine, but don’t here what everyone else here’s as far as it being this epic masterpiece. Glad others are enjoying it so much though.

Yeah, those are the two. I get why he didn’t include “Portland, Maine,” but “That Hotel” is a masterpiece and deserved to be on an album.

Right. It sorta feels like all the personality of her previous records has been sanded down and the corners rounded off. I dunno. I feel like I'd enjoy this album more if it were released by like, Taylor Swift, ha.

There's still some tracks on here that are good for sure, and there's nothing I'd outright say is "bad" in any real sense. Except maybe "Butterflies" which I think maybe gave me diabetes. Maybe in a couple months I'll have warmed up to it more but right now I can't help but feel a little disappointed in this one.

This new Pat Reedy album is solid.

I snagged the Caitlyn Smith album on vinyl for Record Store Day and it sounds even better in this format. Pretty sure that’s still my album of the year. Kacey is close, though.

Yeah that Caitlyn Smith album is incredible. I gotta say female country artists have had a really strong start to 2018. Caitlyn Smith, Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile, Courtney Marie Andrews, Ashley McBryde, etc etc

Hopefully this is allowed since I think people following thread this will really dig it.

There's an awesome country music history podcast called Cocaine & Rhinestones that launched it's first season last October. Imagine Dan Carlin meets Waylon & Willie. The second season is about to drop sometime this summer. I don't even fuck with country music that much but I really dug this. It's been written about in The Guardian, The New Yorker, Pitchfork, Rolling Stones.

I never thought I'd spend 3+ hours of my day on a three part series of Harper Valley PTA but I loved every moment of it.

I just started listening to it for the first time. I can't do it at work. I immediately want to run outside and slam beers hahaha

It's definitely that kind of record. I'm going to play the shit out of it this summer.

Dillon is the latest Dave Cobb production. I'm really looking forward to that record. He's got some definite similarities to Stapleton. The American Aquarium record is great and that song is one of my favorites.

Randall King released a cd today. A lot of my fellow Texans think he's gonna be the next Strait.
