Yeah, I found that clip just now. It's sad that things turned out that way for them.

Two of the best newer names in country for sure.

  4. Amanda had a really beautiful tribute to JTE on instagram too I think (not sure, I don't have socials and my gf showed it to me)

Anybody around here ever heard of Waylon Payne? New album comes out Sept 11 and looks likes it is the first album he has released since like 2003. About 3/4 of the album is already available on streaming platforms and what’s available is really great stuff.

She did. I feel like she and JTE were closer than he was with Jason, or at least knew each other longer. I actually ended up getting into her music through The Good Life after reading her name in the credits for appearing on the album cover.

I've listened to some of the stuff released so far and I really enjoyed it. "Sins of the Father" was my favorite so far.

Really excited for the new Zephaniah OHora album coming out tomorrow. He released another new song today and based on this one and the previous one already out there, I could see this being my favorite country album of the year. It was also produced by the late Neal Casal, pretty sure it was his last project before his death.

First time I heard him was when spotify was playing an auto generated radio based on a playlist that just ended and I almost thought I was hearing a Merle Haggard deep cut I'd never listened to before haha. Which is of course a compliment in my book.

New Colter Wall is a lot of fun. “Houlihans at the Holiday Inn” is one of my favorite of his songs and the covers of “Big Iron” and “High & Mighty” are awesome

Not sure if I'm just in a way different place musically than I was in 2017 or what, but I loved Colter Wall's first album and just do not like this new one or his album from 2018 at all.

I like it, but it’s just seems like more of the same. He’s great at what he does but it feels like maybe he needs to change it up a bit. I also don’t love the production on this record at times.

The self-titled album was heavier on the dark country ballads and since then he’s leaned more heavily into super traditional cowboy songs, so it may be that the former is more your speed than the latter....The covers he chooses are the best indicator of that IMO; his first couple projects had haunting Townes Van Zandt covers whereas now he’s covering Big Iron and cowboy/rodeo traditionals.

I’m a fan of both so I like the new stuff (Songs of the Plains is probably my favorite of the three) but I totally get how someone could love the first one and then not the latest two.

Yeah, definitely. It kind of just sounded like the same record as Songs of the Plains to me, on first listen.

Yeah, this makes prefect sense. That self-titled record definitely had a different kind of feel than the last two have. I liked that haunting side of him a lot more than the throwback cowboy songs direction.

Gotta say, after making the grave mistake of ~reading the comments~ on more than a few JTE related posts, that the level of smug, heartless contempt people have for those that struggle with addiction makes my fucking blood boil.

Could not get into that new Courtney Marie Andrews album much at all for some reason. Really liked the two prior though.
