Same episode - office gets buzzed on expresso and they tear up the carpet. Oscar says he “always had a feeling” hardwood floors were under the carpet.

He knew this less than a season and a half ago when Dwight shot his gun off. He complained then about it -“why would you put carpet over this!”

It’s funny how a handful of references / info I now understand in season 9 that I didn’t know at all when the season first came out way back when.

Dwight teaches Erin Dothraki and I had never even heard of Game of Thrones at the time.

Dwight plays “We are Young” in the truck with Darryl and I had never heard the song / band before.

Also Homeland and Florence + the Machine name drops.

God... when did season 9 come out? 2012/2013? Weird to think GoT and fun. were around way back then.

Good lord they really did ruin Andy in season 9. Literally right from the start he’s a raging asshole. Immediately in an unfunny way too. And then he leaves for like, half the season, comes back and is the exact same, if not worse! It makes no sense. They don’t need him (or anyone) to be a villain.

Gonna do some googling about it to see if there is any logic behind it. Also don’t think / can’t remember listening to the commentary tracks for episodes so I wonder if there are any details given there.

I read it was because season 9 brought back the original showrunner and he was like "you guys are using Andy wrong. He was always at his funniest as a jerk", so they really played that up.

Andy’s two funniest moments are the cell phone in the ceiling and “like molasses spilling out of your mouth”.

Ed Helms was also filming The Hangover 3 during season 9, which is why he disappeared for so long. Say what you will about him being a raging asshole right out of the gate, but I still think the final few episodes give his character one of the most satisfying endings as well as one of the best lines of the finale. From his rendition of “I Will Remember You” to the “good old days” talking head...solid stuff. They basically gave him David Brent’s storyline from the UK Office Christmas special.

I meant to reply to this but forgot so I had to go back and look for it. You are absolutely correct. I remember right before season 7 aired, the producers said in an interview that, due to Steve Carell’s impending absence, they were devoting whole episodes of season 7 to “trying out” different characters as boss. Andy’s musical is one of his “boss” episodes that season as well. That’s also why they jokingly made Creed the temp manager. That was “Creed’s boss episode.” The one where Toby gets Michael to finally open up to him was “Toby’s episode”, Dwight gets a couple, Jim does, I think Daryl does, etc. It’s interesting to watch it knowing that they’re going to pick Andy in the end. They made a big deal out of “who’s going to be the new manager?” but when you watch season 7, you can’t help but notice that every time they focus on Andy, it seems like they already know they’re going with him.

this scene and when Oscar finds out where Dwight has had sex in the office are so similar and I laugh so hard every single time. "Where, Dwight? Where?"

I don't know if it was intentionally done, but it's so perfect. they're in separate seasons but still pretty close to each other, if I'm remembering correctly.

If I could just forget it

I gave my summer interns business man trophies for all the fine work they did this year. My plan to morph into Michael Scott (seasons 1-2 and some of 3) is nearing completion.
