I get that. Gotta do what you love and you’re good at writing. I also see what you’re saying about coming up with a unique angle - you’d have a built in audience to some degree but if the point is to grow that audience you’d need an outside the box idea.

I appreciate the candid information. I don't see how it can hurt the site to let people know that contributing will help.

With YouTube making plans to start cracking down on ad blockers, I think that might be the way to go. I also don't like the idea of paywalling the whole thing, as that makes growing the site quite difficult.

    I enjoyed that footnote too.

I’ve been coming to this site daily for 20 years and I’m not stopping anytime soon.

I am going to post probably an unpopular view. I will start with the fact that I probably have been “visiting” this site for the past 20yrs. By “visiting”, I am thankful Jason has enabled RSS feeds on AP and Chorus.fm. I hardly actually ever visit the site anymore. Back in the early years, visiting AP made a lot of sense as forums was a great way to interact with the community. As I have gotten older and in combination of social media, I simply consume media differently now. Chorus.fm is my back up catch all on a lot of artists I used to listen to. But over time, my taste in this genre has narrowed and I only really care about certain bands. For example, Andrew McMahon and Paramore are top 2 bands. For Andrew, I subscribe to his Pillar (paid membership for exclusive info and content) and for Paramore, I am in their discord server. Both of these bands basically offer a new way to interact in real time with other fans. This is the unpopular view now, but I find forums less engaging now. I love the real time interactions and consuming of content that is faster pace. Anyways I am not sure where I am going with this post. I think just that for me personally and possibly others, we are simply just finding new ways to consume content and interact with the bands we love. I will say this, chorus.fm forum interactions are by far the most knowledgeable. Jason, maybe set up a paid discord server as an idea? Would love to interact with you all in real time convos.

  7. Heh, I don't think this is really an unpopular view, except that not as many people use RSS feeds the days (RIP Google Reader). For those that do, we have some great options. Our homepage still sees about 30x more daily traffic than the number of people that subscribe to the feeds the last time I looked at the metrics (been a while).

I think in a lot of ways it's just a different way for people to consume/discuss things. The forums still see quite a lot of traffic, coming up on 6 million posts, and I prefer those engagements and the more asymmetrical discussions versus something like Twitter (err, X?). But I see a lot of value in both of them and use both on a regular basis. When music news hits, I like the discussion in the Blink thread more than I like the Twitter or Reddit discussions, for example. But, again, that's why I created this place -- to have something I love and to talk in a way I want with people that agree.

Thanks for reading for all these years, I appreciate it! And really, that's what I care the most about.

  8. See I’m the opposite of the person above: if this site didn’t exist I feel like I’d be forced to actually have a social media presence or at least a feed to get news and info I want. As it stands this is my one stop shop for news and Discourse (shudder) for 90% of the music I care about, sports content and news both good and dumb, shitposting, doomscrolling (I don’t lurk genpol like I used to though, we try to have healthy habits and I just cannot handle the world), plus just general hilarious content in the absurdist xitter thread. I killed my fb and insta in 2015 and haven’t looked back so I seriously just rely on this site, what friends send me, and a burner twitter I activate around the mlb/nba trade deadlines/playoffs and within a couple weeks of November elections. I’ve been in discords and even for topics I’m super into it’s too overwhelming. I will check Reddit every once in a blue moon and that’s probably the closest I get to true social media use but at heart I’m a forum kid through and through

tl;dr: please sign up to be a supporter so I don’t have to figure out Threads lol

just keep the site going or I'll throw a temper tantrum. There, solved.

  11. Same, the more times passes and I grow older the more I just... miss forums and how the web used to be in general. I personally strongly dislike how everything seems to be about content these days, how everything happens so fast and how that forces people to be there and react RIGHT NOW or you miss out on (more often than not trivial) stuff.

I'd hate to see this community shift to discord, as I've seen with others in the past few years. At some point, it's just so overwhelming to catch up to even one active server. I don't know if it's the way it's structured, the interface or something but even though I spend a lot of time on it, I just don't think it lends to quality conversation and discourse too. Plus there's so much I have to do in my daily routine to think about endlessly scrolling one more discord server, that along the countless instagram, twitter, and whatever social media du jour feeds...

I feel like chorus.fm, along with Popjustice and I don't know how many other niche forums, are the sole pillars in my life left from those old internet days and I'd be bummed to see it change. Of course, if it has to change to adapt or survive one day, I'd support the switch. I just have my own gripes with today's internet.

I was going to joke, and say TL:DR but I did read it.

I only play one online game. I do not donate to them that much (Maybe $1 every few months) and Ive been playing that for 15 years.

I was here slightly with the previous name. Im here now (off an on, mostly on, sometimes off)

I enjoy reading the entertainment, the music, and where to find a good Reuben Sandwich in Boston.

Once I sort out my paypal, venmo, or whatever it is, consider me paid.

Im older than the average bear here, but here nonetheless.

Will be upgrading my membership level and buying some merch (since apparently I’ve lived under a rock and didn’t see all the options available for merch!) Like a lot of people in this thread, I’ve been around since the AP days and this is the music site I’ve checked consistently since I discovered it. I was 16 then and I’m 35 now :crylaugh: The new music friday post is something i look forward to every week and really can’t picture a world without the site. I appreciate these updates and do let us know if there’s any other ways we can support to keep the engine running!
