I think my new thing will be avoiding album roll outs for the most part. I heard the first single for this ONCE and nothing else -- think it makes a first listen and discovery of an album that much more enjoyable. Already listened to both St Vincent songs but think I'll stop if any more come out and won't listen to those until the release because after experiencing this and Science Fiction this way, it's the way to go.

I've been doing the same thing. I don't think I'll ever not listen to the first single, but pretty much everything this year that I've actually been looking forward to I avoided any further released songs and it makes things much better.

I often overplay pre-release singles/songs leading up to album releases, which inevitably leads me to getting burned out on having heard them once the entire thing comes out (and is why I assume people avoid them), however I played the shit out of TSDIOD and Guilty Party on here and I haven't gotten slightly tired of hearing either of those or felt the need to skip them while listening through this over the past few days... If anything I look forward to hearing to them, because they're both top tier National tracks. I totally get why going into an album fresh is appealing/ ideal for people, but I guess I'm too impatient or lack enough self-restraint to keep myself from listening in most situations. AND NO RAGRETS on this one. I guess it speaks to the quality of those songs, or at the very least my personal connection to them. anyways /sorry for the long post it's been a long night&morning /this record is amazing/ the end.

Love this. Turtleneck is a nice change up in the middle of the record.

Finally got around to my second listen. Back half of this is so great. Carin At the Liquor Store is spectacular. I love love love the bridge of that song. The piano mixed with those little guitar lines fuck me up right.

I forgot how much this band's albums grow on me. TWFM is the only one that was immediate to me.

The last song on this one sounded like something of a mess to me the first time I heard it and now it's one of my favorites. Funny how the first couple of times I listened I could hardly even make out the melody and now it's stuck in my head.

This album is amazing. The only songs I'm not in love with at this point are Walk It Back and Turtleneck, but, goddamn, the back half of this record os so damn strong, especially the stretch of I'll Still Destroy You and Dark Side Of The Gym, which those two songs are probably my favorites at this point with Guilty Party right behind them.

Not into Turtleneck as much as some of you. I mean, has some elements I appreciate, but definitely my least favorite on the record. This is incredible with headphones too, man.

This part of "Born To Beg" is the best.

New York is older and changing its skin again
It dies every ten years and then it begins again
If your heart was in it, I'd stay a minute
I'm dying to be taken apart

Best lines on the album. Cried when he sang them at the NPR show.

Listened three times now and the only song I do not completely love at this point is Born To Beg. The rest of the album is absolute perfection. Turtleneck is definitely the outlier, but it is absolutely a highlight and it gives the album a big jolt of energy, plus its just so damn catchy. I keep finding myself singing it in my head even though I don't know the words yet.

I am making an effort to listen to Born To Beg though to give it a chance. I've read many people list it as a highlight of the album for them, if not their outright favorite track.

I'll be there. I prefer when the shows are indoors, but there's nothing wrong with the venues outdoor shows. Hell, you could just not buy a ticket and hangout riverside and you would still be able to hear the show perfectly.

They really nailed the timing of this release. This album is pretty much begging (for you, heh) for ice cold winter nights and crisp fall evenings. It makes me want to curl up in a blanket.

I listened to both this and Brand New album and was like dang I just really need fall/winter.

I tried the BN one during a night walk but it was still like 80 degrees and it sucked.

Same thing happened to me, except it was Trouble Will Find Me, haha. By the end of the walk I was hot and sweaty and not feeling it at all.

I think the day TWFM came out I lucked into it being a rainy week so I just sat in my backyard and everything was perfect.

The title track really does something to me. I zone in on Beringer's voice while everything else is swirling around me. He is the eye of the hurricane. It's so dreamy and ethereal.
