damn, I love Empire Line! if I had to choose a least favorite it'd probably be Born To Beg (which I still love very much as every song on here is GREAT)

It's so consistent, I genuinely love every song

 

Everyones saying the vinyl rip sounds fine but i just cant bring myself to let my first listen be it

 

I've definitively decided that I'm going to wait until Friday, or at the very least stay up late on Thursday and listen to it for the first time at midnight. The next 3 nights I'll spend some time with Boxer, High Violet, and TWFM.

 

It doesn't sound fine. It sounds good.

 

"Its so easy to set off the molecules and the caplets" is both a clever way to describe mental illness but is also a cute little reference to Montagues and Capulets from Romeo & Juliet

 

I'm generally enjoying this so far but am surprised to find that Matt's voice is my least favourite part. I usually like him but find his voice has gotten slightly higher than on past records and it sounds a lot less confident. Anybody else feel this way?

 

This really started with High Violet and became much more pronounced on TWFM. Quitting cigarettes probably has something to do with it. Also he has talked about being more interested in exploring his higher register for awhile now. I think for a long time he was referred to as having "limited range" so he's probably, actively or not, pushing back against that now. I think his voice sounds great.

My only complaint about TWFM was the way the vocals were mixed with sooooooo much reverb. I'm glad they eased up on that with this record.

 

I had a listen to random parts when it leaked and thought this might have been due to a bad vinyl rip since I saw someone saying it seemed higher pitched which is why I'm waiting for a proper version. If not I think I may have the same issue.

 

Just heard this whole record live, awesome stuff. A ton of layers, more thoughts later

I mean, if my favorite album of the year sounds even better come Friday I'm only going to be pleased but no way in hell would I not listen to a new National album the second I'm able to

"Born To Beg" made me cry when it was played live tonight. Beautiful song.

 

Well as I expected this is fantastic. Guilty Party is still the standout for me as of right now.

 

Color me impressed that nearly 12 hours after a show in which cd copies of the album were sold a good rip still hasn't made its way to the internet.
