This is just a great podcast in general. John Darnielle is such an interesting thinker about such a wide range of subjects.

Oh my god

 

God I forgot this video existed. TMG were my favorite band but I've struggled to get into the last few albums. This is everything though.

 

I feel this. In my opinion, he’s on a trip with his songwriting rn that i feel not especially interested in. Everything up to All Eternals Deck is good-to-great, but the last three are so super specific that it’s just hard for me to buy-in. Beat the Champ has had some staying power for me, but the other two resonate a lot less. It’s not like he’s trying and failing or something, it’s just not in a style that appeals to me. For the time being, i have no complaints because it gives him an excuse to tour which is always good.

 

I can listen to Transcedental Youth sometimes. The last two were listen and done. I am hoping a return to form is in order. I didn't go to this tour but the set list was a nice spread from across his career.

 

Not sure why people want him to rehash old albums

 

Been listening to We Shall All Be Healed lately, that is a really good album and went under my radar forever

 

If anything I wish he would experiment more and explore radically different sounds

He's mastered his craft but it's such a niche craft there's only so much you can do with it

ALOTWTC was the best post-Sunset Tree album

 

Get Lonely is the best but they’re all kind of the best in different ways.
