I legit laughed out loud a few times during the Blood Incantation album, but more out of awe that they were actually pulling some of it off.

Yea I’ve seen them maybe 5 times and they are amazing. Pretty sure they are playing as a 4 piece now

 

It's crazy how well it all works in practice. So often bands will try to mix a ton of seemingly disparate elements, and it just ends up sounding like a mess. That makes successful attempts (like this) hit so much harder.

 

So I'm trying out filming reaction videos and decided to make Blood Incantation's opening track as my first one. It didn't go well. After the first 2 minutes, I was in a trance. The whole album is fire though and the solos are sick.

 

This is why I love that Tomb Mold album from last year so much. The way they successfully brought the jazz elements into their sound is just awesome.

 

My buddy’s sisters bf is a really good local metal drummer and filled in for this German metal band Mental Cruelty last night. They were support for Carnifex which I’ve never heard of either but was a fun time. Man some metal fans though need to know that the stereotype of them being smelly was accurate last night. Very fragrant

 

Initial thoughts after one listen: The new Blood Incantation is just BTBAM for people who prefer 90s death metal to 00s metalcore. It'll top HIdden History of the Human Race for me, but won't top the first EP or Starspawn. One of my friends whose taste on more proggy stuff I generally trust didn't like it at all, but they've been foreshadowing this type of sound for a full-length that I didn't like and the back half of the last maxi-single that was a little more palpable as far as the exploration of the more ambient stuff with. If I liked prog rock more, this would probably be album of the year for me, but it's a fun listen that'll definitely get outranked by some of the straightforward albums I'll have revisited more and Spectral Voice. But that's definitely a me problem. Solid 7/10.
