Apple Music is actually a great place to discover new metal they highlight a ton of stuff in the specific metal genre page that’s how the Nightmarer album got on my radar

That new Thy Art song is good, but not as good as any of the big songs off the last album. Hopefully I don’t feel that way about the new album.

Two new releases to start with, including one that everyone should have listened to by now. We got your straight from California crossover thrash right here with the new Drain album. FFO Mindforce, Power Trip etc:

How about some British tech thrash in the vein of Voivod/Timeghoul/Atheist but at the same time none of those? Cryptic Shift released their debut full length in 2020 that started with a 25 minute opener. Remember that? Before that, they had a 2016 EP called Beyond the Celestial Realms. Looks like they decided to remix/remaster the EP and released it last week, including an unreleased track and some demo tracks. Very solid listen:

first new metal i'm hearing this year. pretty good!

 

This band pulls from the best blueprints of 00’s metalcore and I am here for it. Way better than everything on the last LP and more in line with YRW.
